Fountain Decoration Ideas?

Linds, on November 5, 2016 at 5:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Recently, the fountain at our venue has been having issues... and we found out they're planning to remove the fountain, but it won't be done before our wedding in March (I know it's 4 months away, but they say it won't be done). It looks like it won't be running, but it will still be in existance.

I'm looking for options I can show the manager to see if we can have it filled and use it for decor instead of having an empty fountain taking up a huge chunk of the room on our wedding day. I've attached a picture of the fountain, and in the comments I'll share some ideas - I'm thrilled for other suggestions and opinions - thank you!

Wow you venue is breath taking! I wouldn't worry about the fountain too much but out of all the options, I love the third one. Very romantic!

Thanks - I absolutely love the venue too. I'm just so bummed out the fountain is actually right as you walk in the doors, and now it's going to be a big empty hole.

I'm going to talk to my florist and see what he can do for floating floral options price wise.

    Your venue is gorgeous!

I shouldn't do too much to the fountain because it seems like the jets are pretty strong, maybe some petals if allowed though!

When I see fountains, all I think about is my brother peeing in them! I'm sorry, it won't happen at your wedding (95% sure) but when my older brother is around alcohol and fountains (he's in his late 30's) he pees in them!

If it would be too expensive, may just lose rose petals in there would pretty too!

@Nikol - the fountain will likely be off as it's broken, so there won't be any jets running if we decorate it.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We're going to try to meet with the owner of the venue in December to finalize our set up ideas and will make sure to bring these ideas with us.

What if you filled it with something like potted lavender plants, densely enough that you don't see the pots?

@tinkerpsu - thanks! It's a new venue in Rochester, NY - I think we're going to be 6th wedding there.

@Always - although I do like the idea of filling it with plants, I'm certain that would be an extreme cost. It's big enough to fit at least 4 12 person tables space wise in the area covered by the fountain. They're actually taking it out partially because it's broken, and partially because it takes up so much room - they would be able to fit a lot more people/have more space without it.

Maybe renting? Most florists have a good line on tree/bulk rentals? I like the floating flowers idea too.

I love the flowers! I think they make some that light up and float too. I know they sell them in pool supplies

Ummm...no. They don't get to sell you on a venue while using a huge fountain as an attraction and then tell you, after you enter into a legal contract with them, "Oh, guess what? The fountain will be dead space on your wedding day." Get out your negotiating skills.

This would be my first move -- if you rented that venue when the fountain was in use and part of the reason you liked the venue was because of the fountain, I'd ask to renegotiate your contract. I would tell them that this was not acceptable and now, through no fault of your own, you are now saddled with a task -- and an expense -- that you hadn't anticipated when you signed the contract. This fountain needs to be decorated. A live fountain is gorgeous. A dead fountain is a damn eyesore.

Will the fountain be drained and dry? If it will be, I think your venue -- if they sold you on the site with the fountain in use -- owes you some money to at least put some arrangements in the big, dry pit that's painted blue.

Go for it. I know you're four months out, but the worst they can do is say no, and with a March wedding (off season), they know they'll be hard pressed to re-rent your venue.

And please...find out what this "we're planning to remove it, but it won't be removed by your wedding date means". You do not want a half finished removed job as part of your aesthetic. I'd fight for some money back, big time.

@Centerpiece - I know... we've had some road blocks with this venue for sure. We were sold on the venue by one manager/management company... which was kicked out by the building owner, and now we have a new owner of the wedding portion of the building.

They're honoring our old contract, which is cheaper than the new prices, so I think she's already feeling like she's giving us a deal. She bad mouthes the old company a lot, tells us all the things she plans to do to make it better, but doesn't have a timeline as to what's going to be done by our wedding.

My parents went to the venue yesterday (I'm an out of town bride, so I can't go over easily during events), and my dad said it was fine, but my mom said it smelled a little musty/damp and she thought it was due to the fountain. That's really how the idea that it could be an issue came to us.

We're kind of getting little scraps of information each time we meet with her, and we found out from the rental place that she's planning to remove the fountain and that it won't be done before we have our wedding. I don't know how it didn't make me think it would be "off" when we got married... but it never even registered - so now we need to really figure it out.

There's one more wedding next weekend, and luckily I'm going to be home, so I plan to go to the venue to see things for myself. Then we're going to meet with the owner/manager early December to go over everything.

Definitely do check to see if "dead fountain" means no flowing water or no water at all. There's a big difference in the level of eyesore between the two. Then ask them how they plan to deal with it so it's not an eyesore the day of your wedding. Seems to me like it should be their responsibility!
