Foundation recommendations

FutureBennis, on September 27, 2017 at 1:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

Hey everyone! My MUA asked me to bring a foundation and concealer in my skin tone for the day of. She has a lot of shades, but they all contain SPF and are close to my shade, but are not quite matching. Can anyone recommend a brand with pale shades and doesn't contain any SPF. I also need something with good staying power. I'm trying to avoid flashback as much as possible.

Just curious, why are you only looking for no SPF? I was going to recommend Lancome, I am very pale and they have a shade for me Smiley smile but they SPF

Maybe go to a make up store like sephora or ulta and get matched? They can give you the best recommendations

I use clinique even better, but it has SPF. I'm super pale but my MUA is using a Mac foundation on me. I'd start there.

I use Smashbox Studio Skin and the girl at ULTA helped match the color to my skin.

@JustSayNguyen SPF causes flashback. Flashback is when the SPF in the foundation gives you a pale appearance. I'm already super pale and the last time I had a picture taken of me with foundation with SPF I was practically as pale as paper. My reception is indoors and flash photography will be used.

@Asta That's not what I was told by the photog. But you could be on to something. I know mine has Titanium Dioxide in it. That one caused flashback for me. I heard silica powder does it too.

I am a MUA Smiley smile

SPF causes white glare and flashbacks, plus is usually thicker which is not good for long lasting makeup.

Urban Decay foundation tends to oxidize a lot on people, I wouldn't recommend it.

Too Face- Born This Way Foundation is amazing. Super good coverage, not thick, buildable and has a ton of shades.

Nars- All Day Luminous- amazing foundation. Super natural looking but makes your face book airbrushed. Okay shades, but the lightest is fairly light!

Concealer: Nars creamy radiant concealer for the win!

What type of skin do you have? (Oily, dry, combo?)

My skin tends to be dry, combo in the summer. I'm also pretty pale. Too Faced's Born This Way has a very pale shade and the coverage is good on it. It has a pretty solid lasting power as long as you set it properly. I've been loving Estee Lauder's Double Wear. They have a pretty wide shade range as well.

Why would your MUA not have a foundation that works for you? Is she an actual professional or a friend-type doing your makeup?

Make sure whatever foundation you end up going with--you get a full makeup trial with this person. My go to wedding foundation for lighter skin tones is either Make Up For Ever's Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation, or MAC's Studio Fix Fluid. Both offer amazing coverage, blend well, and photograph beautifully. Also, make sure your MUA has a good setting powder. If she's missing that from her arsenal 1) I wouldn't trust her as a professional and 2) make sure you buy one for yourself (Laura Mercier's is basically the Gold Standard of setting powder).

Setting powder a must. Make sure she bakes.

@Elizabeth She works at a salon and is certified. She has many shades, including pale ones, but nothing SPF free and the correct shade. I'm a very hard person to match foundation for. I have only found one foundation from Revlon that closely matches and it has SPF, so that one is a no go. She has setting powder that works really well but I can't remember the brand. During the trial, the foundation she used was close, but had a yellow undertone.

Your MUA needs to have a shade that would match you. If my MUA asked me to bring my own makeup for my wedding, I'd find a new MUA or do my own.

Anyway, Tarte is a great brand for vegan and cruelty free foundations and products. Their Shape Tape concealer has the best staying power, IMO.
