My fiancé and I have found a venue we love and we really want to book it. We showed it to his parents and they like it a lot. My parents, however, don't seem to like it. My mother especially has made it very clear that she hates it and does not approve of our choice and insists on us picking another venue we saw that we ended up not liking. She won't stop picking fights over the venue we like and keeps insisting to go with her choice of venue that her and my dad approve of.

What should I do? I know my parents, they will make it known that they're unhappy with our venue choice if we book the one we really like and carry on to the wedding day or do we book somewhere else and not be happy with it? Any advice is appreciated.

If my parents aren't paying then their opinion unfortunately wouldn't matter much to me! even if they are helping it wouldn't change my mind about what I want for my wedding

My FMIL is still struggling with the venue my FH and I selected. We are getting married at an airplane museum and she just doesn’t see the vision for the place that we have. As a few months have passed she hasn’t mentioned as much her dislike of it. Just subtle comments here and there. But all that matters is we love our venue. Don’t settle for something you aren’t in love with. There will be comments. You just need to brush them off and do what makes the most since for the two of you.

While I agree with no pay, no say, I'm curious about why your parents are opposed to this venue. What are their concerns?

I would pick the venue you want. It's insane that anyone else would feel the need to complain about YOUR venue for YOUR wedding. They got to choose their wedding venue. If the venue is a problem and you let them win and go with another venue, brace yourself for their opinions on food, alcohol, decor, flowers, guest list, and everything else too.

So the concerns that they have are more or less style. It is an old/historic house and it allows 100 people in side the house while the sheltered pavilion has space for seating 125. We were not looking to invite more than 100 people either way so space isn't the issue. Their issue is AC, which is inside the house. Handicap accessible, it is. Shelter from the elements, it is. Chairs and tables, are provided. Their concerns are backed up with services or accommodations that are provided. I think they just genuinely dislike/hate the venue.

Are you planning the reception for indoor or outdoor? Outdoor in July with no AC would be a huge concern for me too. Wedding outside, reception inside?

That was the plan, unless it was a cooler day, then kiki t would all be outside.
