Forcing Bridesmaid To use Hairdresser (venting)

Keli , on August 30, 2017 at 3:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 43

So, Im now a bridesmaid and the bride recently sprung it on all of the bridesmaids (She told us Tuesday the wedding is Saturday) that we will be using her hairstylist and we have to pay for it. Originally she simply gave us a pic and said to get our hair done that way. Great I thought, I can do that..I thought. When I told her that I already planned to do my hair myself (in the style she wants) she told me using her stylist was "not up for debate". It is an updo, a very simple updo. I do hair for family, friends, and highschool girls for prom and senior pics etc so I know I can do the style. I even did my own hair for my wedding!!

I offered to do a trial run and prove to her I could do it, but she is adamamt about me using this particular stylist. I have never let anyone but my mother (who completed cosmotology school) curl or put heat in my hair. I informed her of this and offered to do the curl prep for my own hair and let the stylist complete the chignon. She has not responded...

Wow, she sounds like a bridezilla. I would probably push back and say, "I'm sorry, I can't afford a hairstylist on top of all the other expenses I have had for your wedding. If you require me to use this hairstylist, you must pay for it."

She's being rude. I would tell her tough cookies.

    I mean if she's paying I don't see a problem.

If she's making you pay, do your own hair. Not your responsibility.

That's when you laugh in her face and walk away.

She should pay if she's demanding something. I would say tough shit and if she gives you hell on the wedding day, drop out and let her bridezilla actions catch up to her.

I would tell her no. If she is requiring it, she needs to pay for it.

She is incredibly rude. Just say, sorry, I have already made other arrangments.

If I had to guess, the bride probably has a minimum number of people that her stylist requires and she just found out about it and has decided to pass that along to all of you. Sorry about this!

She's absolutely in the wrong, but good luck proving that to this bridezilla!

I would tell her that you weren't budgeting for it on the short notice and she needs to pay for it if she is making you use her hairstylist

She's being a controlling Bridezilla. I would send her a photo of the hair completely done and say "See, it looks exactly the same and it won't cost me anything since I didn't plan for this expense. Promise I won't ruin your photos, thanks" I'm very sarcastic though soooo maybe leave out the last sentence lol

Nope, she's requiring it, she is supposed to pay. (Which I don't get this rule when it comes to dresses can someone explain?? If it's required my BM's have a certain dress shouldn't I pay for it?!)

Sounds to me like maybe she's getting a deal by having all the BM's go through this one particular stylist - maybe even getting her's done for free. You are under no obligation to do your hair to her specification unless she is paying, period!

I think FutureVC is right. And truthfully it sounds like you are more opposed to having someone else do your hair more so than whatever the cost is. This should have been discussed long before now so stand your ground.

MOB, I was not going to say that, but sometimes I do suspect that a bride (or groom) gets a deal where everyone else pays.

No. You say no. If she's not paying, you don't have to do it. She's not your boss. She does not pay your bills. She's supposed to be your friend.

First of all .. you should have stopped her when she told you what style to get. Unless she is paying for it, she has no say. And now that she is requiring you to use her stylist, I would tell her this ...

Because I booked 8 girls for hair and makeup I am getting my hair and makeup done for the price of one basically BUT I am paying for all of them ( I even cleared this with everyone when I booked the vendor)

So long story short, even if she is getting some sort of discount she can't demand you to use her stylist and expect you to pay. If she wants you to use her stylist she pays. Simple as that. Otherwise you can either drop out now, or do it on your own

"Sorry, I wasn't planning on this extra last minute expense and it is out of budget so I'm just going to do it myself like I planned."
