For those who are married, what hiccups did you encounter on your wedding day?

Hey ladies. I was just curious what sorts of things went wrong on your big day, and how you handled the situation. I know not everything runs 100% smoothly, but I like hearing about situations and how people dealt with them. I tend to be a tad anxious and I want to be somewhat prepared for some...

Two days before my wedding there was a huge blizzard. I knew it was coming and I knew there was nothing to be done about it. Instead we got awesome snow pictures and we FaceTimed the ceremony for the two guests who got stuck in are as because of the weather.

Honestly, the only problem we had day of was in our favor. Our bar was supposed to be unlimited beer, wine, and champagne - but the venue messed up and started serving liquor.

I realized it about halfway through the cocktail hour when I had a break from pictures and said something because I didn't want to unexpectedly get back billed for it. Instead of cutting it off right away, they allowed the full open bar to continue through cocktail hour and then transitioned to beer, wine, and champagne after dinner.

The only Major Hiccup we had was that my mom got very sick the night before the wedding. Nothing we could do, at that point, so I just had to keep reminding myself, "She wants me to enjoy this day!" until things got really busy and I could just focus on the day. Hopefully, you won't need this advice. Smiley sexy

    1) the hotel didn't secure a bridal suite as promised so we had to push them to give us one

    2) our ceremony started 20mins late because the officiant was taking his sweet time

    3) no one was assigned to change out the buffet trays and clean it all up so my uncles jumped in

    4) the tiki torches and lights weren't lit upon arrival

    5) the dj played the wrong playlist during dinner

nothing huge, just little things that had to be corrected

The last 4 days before the wedding (in order):

    - Based on his shift size, I figured out that one of the GM needed a x-long/long tie and the ties we had were not available in anything other than a standard length. We had to pick out a new one based on what was available and could be obtained in time. I didn't like the new ties as much as the original... but what can you do?

    - A handful of guests that had accepted had to decline (for very good reasons). We had to reshuffle the tables a bit to make it work. And reprint a few placecards.

    - The day before the wedding, we realized that the rental company had ordered the wrong chargers and that what they'd ordered would not work... so the DOC got them to bring in the correct ones from ~3 hrs away.

    - My niece (FG) came down with a horrible viral stomach bug that she promptly gave to her younger brother and mother. My brother (GM) did manage to escape and make the flight, leaving his family at home.

Usher had a little too much to drink before the wedding and he went AWOL a few times. Since he wasn't there to assist with the guests not everyone took a ribbon wand or ceremony program.

The ones who did take the ribbon wands weren't exactly sure what to do with them so our picture came out a little lame.

We were 1/2 hour late to our reception but because we were late it actually took about a full hour off of dancing.

Since we lost an hour dancing some of my favorite songs never got played.

I gave the photographer a list of "must have" shots but I also thought he had some common sense. He never got THEE wedding photo. You know the one of just the bride and the groom in the church. The one that every couple in the world have but us. Yeah, that one.

However he did take some great shots and I already find myself not looking at them as often as I was. I'm sure by the time I'm celebrating my 5th anniversary, I won't give two hoots about what pictures I have and what ones I don't.

It all worked out. I'm glad I put so much detail into my wedding. It made the little mishaps less noticeable.

    The day OF the wedding:

    - The cake plate was too small (cake was 2" bigger at the base than cake lady originally said.) Luckily, the cake lady had a cake stand we could use. It was actually prettier than the one we originally planned.

    - The base color of the cake was darker than expected. Was supposed to be more tone-on-tone ivory/light gold and white. It was more classic gold and white. It was still gorgeous.

    - I forgot the cake server and knife. The DOC had one in her emergency kit that she used.

    - I forgot to lace the back of my dress before the "dress only" photos. So I hate all the pics of my dress from the back.

    - One of the bridesmaids who was doing her own hair had not really "done" her hair... but the hairdresser cornered her and fixed it.

    - Nobody in DH's family mentioned that his grandfather really needed a wheel chair for walking any reasonable distance. My dad had to get one from the venue so we could get granddad into the garden for pictures.

    - The rental company forgot to bring the table for the ceremony area. The DOC worked with the venue and they found one we could borrow.

    - The sound system for the microphones for the ceremony (officiant, DH, readers) was not 100% reliable and dropped out twice during the ceremony... but they were relatively small glitches.

    - We forgot to mention to the guests about the "unplugged" part of the ceremony. Luckily, nobody was crazy about holding their phone/cameras over their heads.

    - The caterers had instructed certain servers to, during cocktail hour, make sure they took the passed hors d'ouevres plates to MOB/FOB, B/G to make sure they actually ATE. The servers kept thinking my MIL was the MOB (evidently my mom looks FANTASTIC for her age.)

The biggest thing was that it was a little too warm in the chapel during the ceremony and my daughter got a little too hot and almost fainted near the end but she was ok. Also my hairstylist was supposed to meet me at the venue in the bridal suite for touchups and she was too late. Thank God that my MUA does hair as well and she handled any necessary touch-ups. We ended up with about 600 pics from our photographer but I would have liked to have more outside shots and family shots but overall everything turned out better than expected. My advice, touch base with all of your vendors the day before to confirm place and arrival time and have a detailed day of timeline and provide it to everyone that is a part of your days that everyone is on the same page.

The only real hiccup we had was with my bridesmaid. She missed the rehearsal, therefore she didn't know where she was supposed to stand, etc. on the day of. And she left about 10 minutes into the reception without telling anyone she was leaving/needed to leave. I noticed about 20 minutes later, but I didn't let it ruin my night. I was just a little upset that she didn't tell anybody that she needed to leave and she hasn't tried contacting me since the day of the wedding.

Also, the morning of one of my nails chipped while I was trying to open the syrup bottle, but that was easily fixed at the nail salon!

Overall, I'm married to my wonderful husband and that's all that matters.

When my BMs came over to get dressed, they needed to borrow my mom's iron because the dresses were all wrinkly. Not a big deal, but it took a little longer than expected to get ready. When I arrived at the venue, there were a whole bunch of guests who hadn't sat down yet and were just kind of milling outside. And then two of them started to walk in through the middle of the bridal party. Luckily they realized and walked around to another entrance and waited a minute.

    Nothing was really major but....

    - my flower girl was wearing tights and shoes that (IMHO) didn't match her dress and she had the look of a death march throughout the ceremony

    - DH kept yanking down on my veil every time he put his arm around me. Luckily it stayed put.

    - a friend's 2 little girls stomped all over the front of my gown when we were taking a group photo and they were acting goofy. I had to grin and act like I was still happy. I've been trying to spot clean the dress and am remembering that as I scrub-- grrrr....

-the wedding coordinator couldn't signal the band to start up the processional music fast enough after the ceremony was done, so it was a little awkward, and the guests all just started clapping for us, so that was good enough for us to start going back down the aisle.

    - our cake filling was supposed to be tiramisu, but instead was skimpy regular frosting with a funny chemical-like taste. I guess the baker meant that it'd be tiramisu-flavored filling. The rest of the cake- the cake itself and the beautiful decorations- made up for it though.

-MIL started going off into spaciness in her speech, which DH and his sister had warned me about, but DH poked her and got her to wrap it up.

-I turned around and forgot to get my bouquet back before walking back down the aisle w/my husband.

-our designated photographer-friend left the event without telling us because he wasn't have a good time. Well, we still saved a lot of money on photography and many other relatives and friends had good cameras and took pictures too.

That's about it. No fights, crying, yelling, screaming children (which I had feared given the high no. of very small children), nothing was forgotten at home. All in all, I'm happy with the way everything went!

    1) The biggest one was the throw bouquet (which we were using for an anniversary dance)... we accidentally left it up at the church. We realized it after we got to our reception site about 20 minutes away. We were about 20 minutes from doing introductions. My MOH got her husband, who is a state trooper, to drive up to the church and get the bouquet and bring it back. He drove back to the church and got back to the reception site right before we started introductions. I can't even imagine how fast he drove since he did what should have been 45 mins or so in about 20 mins!! lol

    2) I had forgotten my magnetic earrings (I'm not pierced anymore, had issues) at home. One of my friends from OOT went to the mall in the morning and got me some new ones. When we were going around visiting tables at the reception, one got knocked off my ear and I lost it... haha Smiley smile Oh well.

    3) This happened at our rehearsal dinner - I had a bottle of wine that I wanted everyone there to sign for us to have for our anniversary, that my aunt accidentally put out on the table and opened for people to drink. My brother in law and his girlfriend drove to the liquor store to get us another bottle! lol

For us, the venue set up the tables incorrectly we had faxed over our seating plan and they had set it up however they normally do, so I was pretty upset. The maitre'd was fantastic and fixed it before the ceremony though. Other than that, it was all a blur Smiley smile
