For those brides doing the dollar dance! What are the guests putting money in?

I have been trying to think about what the maid of honor and best man will be holding to put the money in? I want to make something but I don't know if I should do a bag, jar basket, or a decorated box? Anybody made anything or seen cute things used?

Try the garter...LOL! Just jokes...seriously though...in some countries in Africa at weddings money is pinned to the bride and groom during the dance...it's a part of the culture...I wouldn't feel comfortable with a money dance but that's cause I didn't grow up with that as a part of culture.

Now let me be the first to admit that if someone started that at the wedding and everyone else wanted to join in...who am I to say no don't pin me with your money:o)

Typically from weddings I've been to; the BM collects money for DH, the MOH collects money for you. They didn't have a container to hold the money. They are also the ones to regulate timing to have new dance partners cut in (usually 45 seconds to a minute).

I was giving her alteratives that she can do instead of begging for money. Proper etiquette on the ETIQUETTE board.

    Shaking my head......

This has NOTHING to do with etiquette. GEEZ- what is with some people?! Why so quick to be dramatic? I don't get it. Stop bashing and start supporting one another. It's ridic.

@Michelle, you can make yourself sound much less rude if you never posted anything...

Just trying to give you alternatives

    Bashing tradition is rude.

In fact, the post was not asking for opinions on the dollar dance, OP asked about what type of bag or other accouterments to hold the money. You wanted to be rude and saw an opportunity. It had nothing to do with etiquette.

Thank you everyone. I wasn't asking for opinions on the dollar dance. I have read many of the different posts on the forums about the dollar dance and how people hate it and bash or people who think it is tradition. I can see how some people think it is tacky, but with my family it is tradition and not tacky at all.

Especially with having 400 guests I see it is an opportunity to talk with everyone and not everyone has to give money.

All I wanted was some creative advice.

@Csquid typically your MOH handles the money and controls the timing. She will just have a little line in her head and send someone up a after a reasonable time and the BM will do the same for your DH. Don't be nervous about it! It's a great chance to spend a little time with your guests and it's usually very relaxed.

My MOH and his BM are each going to hold a jar. I will decorate them with some left over diy project supplies.

@Kelsie, you don't have to defend yourself. Like I said, we did it, and it was fun. I got to talk to people that I probably wouldn't have otherwise (DH's friends). I have no regrets. No one was forced to participate.

Thank you! And yeah that does make sense if they hold it then they will control the timing so it doesn't get too long.

Around us the dollar dance is normal but you receive a shot when you give money . I am not doing one however because of how many people we are having it would take to long even with a 30 sec time limit 120 people would be an hr just the dollar dance and I have more than that so I nixed it . I did consider it because its a Italian tradition they also used to pin money on the dress while dancing to help pay for the wedding now its like spending money for the honeymoon . Its just traditions and everyone has thier own if we agree with them or not .

I'm not much of a fan of dollar dances but I do know they are more of a regional thing so I'll try to help unlike some others....

My cousin used large mason jars for hers. She did separate jars because whoever had more dances got to smush cake in the others face! She decorated the neck of the jar with twine and had a wooden heart on each, one heart had "Bride" burnt into it and the other "Groom".

Another cousin of mine used a legit piggy bank at their BBQ themed wedding.

However I can see a bag like this working....

Clearly Michelle has never been to any type of cultural wedding where dollar dances are a very normal thing to do and guests don't GASP or walk out of a wedding offended by it. I'm sorry that you're stuck in the Western view of weddings and only come on WW to harp on people about etiquette you don't agree with. I see her asking a question about what bag to use and not what you think about it. You never disappoint though, I always expect to see you pop up now, you're too predictable!

Kelsie, a satin bag could work.
