For anyone planning to or has Register at Bed Bath & Beyond

BeckiO, on February 25, 2009 at 7:57 AM Posted in Planning 1 32

I know someone mentioned about Registereing at Bed Bath and Beyond, and I worked there for 4 years. If anyone has questions that you may think to ask them about Registries or want more info before Registering there, please contact me. They really do treat you like Royalty when you Register. I highly recommend them. They offer so much more than a lot of other stores will, even now offering Incentives just for Registering with them and if your Registry is completed. You can literally walk away with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise for free from them. Their Return Policy is out of this world and your registry is your receipt and anything you decide you don't want or need you get Cash Back, not a Store Credit or Gift Card, but hard cash. They will keep their store open while they're closing up for you to scan items onto your registry and not kick you out of the store when they're getting all the rest of the customers out at closing times. If you get hungry most offer complimentary

Snacks and drinks and if you're starving and there for hours they will treat you to lunch on the company. If something gets discontinued the store you registered at's Sales Force Manager will personally call you to let you know that it's discontinued and will offer you options and can update your registry for you if there are glitches on your end of the computer. Save your coupons, especially when you sign up for the mailing list, you can use the 20% off your entire purchase on items not fulfilled on your registry eventhough they give you a 10% off coupon to use toward Completing your registry. If you have to complete anything that would have to be ordered, bring in those coupons, they will cut down on your shipping fees and sometimes they'll even waive the shipping fees for you. Their gifts always come Gift Packaged in boxes, gift bags, or gift sacks, with tons of tissue paper and a beautiful big puffy bow out of tulle. I got so used to gift packaging there, that's how my gifts are

Are done up for any gift giving, and everyone knows it's from me since I used to work there. They truely go above and beyond customer service there and do everything to help their Bridal Customers. Your registry doesn't come out of a machine and is explained to every guest and has pictures of your items. If you see artwork or things up high, any associate won't mind climbing a ladder to get it on your registry. If a customer can't find what it is that you registered for, employees will hunt it down for you, whether in store, another store, or through the Online"Beyond Store". If someone gets you extras or something not on your list, the cashier will add it so that way if you don't want it, you get cash back for it.

Bed Bath and Beyond also gives you as many Announcement cards to let your guests know you're registered there for free. If you run out or mess up, they'll give you plenty more. If someone orders you a gift not in store but by Beyond Store, they give the guest a nice card to give you in an envelope and then packaged. The card includes info such as what item(s), who from, the order number, estimated time to receive it by (and they usually get to you sooner than the expected date), the store's location name and number, as well as their phone number for any questions.

Tiffany's doesn't even do as much for their registered or Registering Customers (not to bash Tiffany's). I went to Bed Bath and Beyond for my sister's gift and forgot my coupon (I bought her a Waterford Crystal Vase and Basket) back in Virginia, and ordered it from the store I used to work at. One of my old managers there even put it in for complimentary Gift Packaging eventhough she hadn't registered there and put in coupons for me. I had it sent to her from MA to TX so that was one less thing she had to pack or ship back herself and gave her the box with her announcement card. My sister was so excited about her gift that she thanked me for not buying her a vase she registered for at Crate and Barrel. Also if something breaks that was ordered online or when you receive it, they'll swap it for you, or get another one sent to you from the Beyond Store.

I gotta tell you... I had thought of doing a registry at Bed Bath & Beyond but figured I would be better off going to Macy's or someplace like that... after reading your post, I am sold! They should pay you for this kind of advertising! I only hope the stores here have the service you are raving about

Thanks. This is the absolute truth about Bed Bath & Beyond. A lot of Brides view stores they love and would love to register at, but from a former insider's perspective, this is stuff most Brides don't know about Bed Bath & Beyond. It was a great company itself to work for, the store manager I had at the location were just awful to her employees (wanted her bonus and having as few employees to work even during the holidays). Luckily I got out when I was Pregnant. P.S. All of you who shop there, keep your coupons. Eventhough it has a printed expiration date, they DO NOT EXPIRE.

I forgot to mention that if you go in on a day where their system is down (this happens in there from time to time), sadly they give you a clipboard with paper and pen and just ask you to write your name, groom's name, and Wedding Date, and to just write down the full UPC Codes on the merchandise and quantity you want, but they will go into your registry and Manually add it in for you in the store, not make you do it from home. Also from time to time they get bombarded with Brides Registering they run out of scan guns (this happened all the time at our store, that we had to borrow them from Receiving after they left for the day). If I can let everyone know that there are so many positives to registering with them, I had to pass this along. They give you incentives for referring friends, if something you register for has a promotion going on like Emiralware, Rachael Ray's Cookline, All-Clad, etc. there are sometimes freebies (Gift with Purchase) that your gusts will sometimes include as

Part of your gift (sometimes it's a free knife, knife sharpener, etc.) and it's a nice extra. Some items even at times there are Free Gift cards where I've seen guests give those gift cards to the Bride and Groom and a lot of Brides and Grooms use them to purchase any unfulfilled items off their registries. If you're lucky to get someone who is creative with gift packaging, some will roll your towels and put them in hampers that were on your registry and have those hidden so you have more to open. That was one of the things besides some friends I miss about Bed Bath & Beyond were helping the Brides and Grooms. They were supposed to get me trained there as a certified Bridal Consultant with Registries, they never got around to it after all of my hounding. That was what really inspired me to want to go into Bridal Consulting and be a Wedding Planner besides planning for my Hubby's and my Wedding(now Vow Renewal). I hope everyone who reads this gets the kind of service they promise you as

A valued Registrant, and all of you get the kind of service from them that I have mentioned and have the best experience possible with them.

Here are a few other pointers I forgot to mention too: All the Department Associates take classes on all the merchandise they sell in their department and take tests on it, so when they actually let you know about thread count, non-stick, Bone China, they actually know what they're talking about. I know the set up in the Bridal Registry Room at the location they displayed some Bone China and other items most couples register for and one of our Associates when giving his schpiel about Bone China would take the tea cup and stand on it with one foot to show how durrible it is and the cup never broke on him. Also if you're in question of the quality of something that you like they might tell you something that is the same but better quality so that you get what you like, but will last you longer, not something you'll be returning right away due to it being flimsy. Unlike a lot of other stores they really take the time to let you know differences in down comforters, towels, cookware, etc.

Thanks for the tips! We're registered there and have been very happy. They've been very helpful. The only thing I wasn't really happy about was that depending on the store, about half of our stuff will show as "ask an associate" meaning it's online only or not avail in that store and associates didn't help my shower guests with this so they didn't pick items from the list. I wish they'd be more helpful to the guests. We didn't get lunch but the ladies were super nice. Can you give me tips on the discounts? I want to buy the rest of my registry when it's all done with. The only "free" offers I knew about were the things you get if you register and recieve like 6 cephalon pieces etc. Anything I'm missing??

    Hi there!

We registered with Bed Bath & Beyond and the person that helped us was wonderful and checked with us if needed any additional items. We have recently started receiving gifts from our registry and we have had a positive experience. It seems that our guests prefer to use our BBB registry over the Macys registry we have.

Sorry if I'm going to be copying and pasting links from Bed Bath & Beyond's Website, but for top Brands that Registrants Register for they are all listed on this link: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/regBridalBrands.asp?order_num=-1

For Incentives for registering with them: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/regGiftWithRegistry.asp?order_num=-1

Incentives for completing your registry: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/regGiftWithRegistry.asp?order_num=-1

If there are other brands that you see items that you like and aren't sure if they're good or not, feel free to ask. If it's a brand I haven't heard of that they've started carrying, I still have friends there that are managers now, I can contact them and they'll give me an honest answer to give to you. Also if there are brands you see and aren't sure how durrible they are and I know about them, I can tell you if it was something we had a lot of returns on and sent back to the vendor as defective so that it's something you don't

Register for and have future problems with. For the completion coupon, a month after your Wedding from the Corporate office you receive a letter in the mail with your 10% completion coupon to use to buy anything not on your registry. If you don't receive it or if you forget it at home, ask the customer service desk for one, a manager can authorize one for you. Also at Customer Service they will print out a current copy of your registry so you know what you still need and the copy they print in store is always the most current updated copy of your registry. If you have a 20% coupon, especially the one for signing up for the mailing list which is a 20% off your entire purchase coupon, you're better off using that and they can apply it to anything being ordered online too for you.

Nicole, I'm sorry to hear your experience with your registry items hasn't been what it should be according to Bed Bath & Beyond Standards. Some suggestions that we used to tell Brides some stores don't carry all the Fine China in their stores, only the larger stores do or the Beyond Store do. If they don't want to order it or go to another store, call or go into the store you registered and ask them if a guest of yours wants to buy it for you, see if they can look up in their system what other stores have it in stock and see for your guest's convenience if they wouldn't mind holding it for them to pick up or see if the store can transfer it to the store you registered for them to pick up. We used to get a lot of transfers and would hold it and would give them a call to let them know it was at the store for them to come and pick up. It might take a day or 2 deppending on where it came from, but we never had a complaint for trying to get the item to our store for them to come and pick up

Next time that happens ask for the sales force or one of the senior managers, they'll help talk to the associates in their morning or evening huddles that they need to be giving better customer service in general to all guests, especially if they're looking for something on a registry. They're all supposed to know if they see a customer walking around with the purple paper (registries) they're supposed to go up and offer assistance and do whatever it takes to find the items you've registered for and let the customer buying the item leave with the best experience possible, and you being a happy bride for getting what it is you've requested. To be honest with all of you Bed Bath & Beyond strives for getting Perfect 10's each month on their Secret Shop Scores, and no store wants to fall below that monthly. They truely are a company that strives on being the best and better than their competators, and more important a store customers want to always come back to.
