Food trucks?

KBtoKD2018, on August 29, 2016 at 2:33 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Hi! I'm Kate! I've been lurking for a few weeks but finally have a question!

I know we still have a long time to plan but we have been talking venues a little recently and are thinking about using my FHs family property on the lake. Is it considered tacky to rent a couple

Food trucks for the evening? I haven't heard or seen it done but thought it was a cute/different idea since we don't have a proper kitchen for a caterer.

Not tacky at all. You mentioned a couple (rather than just one) which is a great idea.

I just want to add that if you are doing a outdoor/backyard wedding to save money, they typically aren't much cheaper than a traditional venue. But if that doesn't matter to you, then carry on! You have a while until then so you can save up a lot anyway.

Hope your planning is going well! Smiley smile

Our catered food will be BBQ for dinner but we got a taco truck for a late night snack!. We too are having our wedding on family property so they can easily set up. Some of our guests know of this and they are so excited and we are too!

@Andy&PughSayIDo ugh I'm learning from the forum that what we thought would be a cheaper option will probably end up being around the same as a traditional venue since you have to account for things you normally wouldn't like lights and a bathroom lol Smiley sad

I really would prefer an intimate destination wedding but FH isn't quite on board yet. I'm hoping after we run some numbers for the wedding he wants, he will realize how the little things add quickly. We have plenty of time to decide though Smiley smile

I have never been to a food truck wedding but I think it's seems like a lot of fun!

As PPs have said outdoor weddings can get complicated and expensive pretty easily.

Hi Kate! Food trucks are an awesome idea and as a guest, I would be pretty pumped if I saw that! However, do consider what a couple otber posters have mentioned which is that backyard weddings can often become very pricey and a lot of work because you basically need every little thing! Tent, dance floor, lighting, NICE portable restrooms (like a trailer, not port-a-potties.) This isn't to say that it can't be done, but just take into consideration some of these costs. The nice thing about backyard weddings though is you have your choice of catering (or food trucks!) and you can buy the alcohol yourself and just hire a bartender which can be much more affordable than what some venues would charge you for open bar. Good luck and happy planning!

OP, I thought for literally the first year of our engagement that we were going to do it all at FH's family property. When it came down to sorting it all out, it was going to be about $3000 more expensive than where we are having it at now, and way more time and stress. If that's okay with you I think food trucks would be great! It's cute and original but not self catering!

Food trucks are a very cute idea and can often be cheaper than traditional catering! My FH works PT at a local restaurant called Slidin' Dirty (BOMB sliders, eggrolls, mac n cheese, etc.). He actually works for their catering arm which is done out of a food truck (the business began as a food truck and then opened a physical location). I've seen their price list - for a reasonable amount of food and drink plus open beer wine and soda it's less than $40pp for 5 hours!

As previous posters have metioned, just map out all the costs to see what's the better option!

I'm having my vow renewal at my family farm and girl it's expensive. I've saved a lot of money by doing DIY, but it's so much more work.

I think food trucks sound AMAZING!

I think food trucks would be really cool. But i would definitely have a variety in case guests dont like something served on the one truck.
