Food Truck Catering

Natasha, on September 2, 2019 at 10:57 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

I would like to have food truck catering at my wedding. We are going for a very "backyard" or "fair" theme with lawn games and an outdoor dance floor. The food trucks are also helpful as we will be having the wedding at a local lion's club and while there are kitchen facilities they are somewhat limited, as is the space for set up inside. We really only plan on using the inside portion for eating (free form eating so people can come and go as they please), restrooms, and if people want to take an air-conditioned break from the outside.

We have landed on two food trucks for the main meal, with one also providing pre-made appetizers as well that will be set out inside (we are doing first look pictures so won't need a cocktail hour). We are expecting 80-100 guests. I am not too concerned about people's wait times, as one of the food trucks is a pizza truck which will be setting out whole pizzas for people to grab and replacing them as needed for 3 hours. They will also be providing salad and some small desserts. We also plan on having a reduced menu for our other food truck (they do a variety of food but we love their meat pies, rice bowls, and tacos), so I think the turn around will be fast for them too. For the dessert, we also plan on having a "boozy" ice cream truck (last 2 hours). I am going to be making my own "naked" 4-tiered angel food cake with fruit as well.

I guess my questions are: the pricing for both food trucks is by head. Is it accurate for me to give them the 80-100 person head count since there will be another food truck present and likely all people won't eat from both trucks? We are definitely spending most of our budget on food and I'm ok with that, but also don't want to spend more than I have to. Also, am I over-estimating how much food we should have or that is needed? Is there somewhere I can or should cut back?

Sorry for the novel everyone! And thank you for your help!

I would ask the food trucks what they think, but I would probably give each a count of 2/3 the total. 2/3 will likely choose one of the trucks (1/3 each), and 1/3 will try both.

    Hey Natasha!

I love the sounds of your wedding! It just sounds so relaxed and fun, with great food!

Have you discussed the pricing with your food vendors? Are they both aware that there will be 2 food trucks offering different foods? It shouldn’t be a problem, but they may be able to offer more information about pricing. I would imaging, as the pp mentioned, that you would account for 3/4 of the guests for each food track as some guests will try both foods.

Have you started thinking about decor for your gorgeous backyard wedding?

I would rather have more food than not enough ! Maybe 85 a head to each truck ? I’m not sure about the ones you are having but we have a few restaurants and food trucks in the family and when the trucks cater events they have a minimum amount you have to spend and then it’s estimated on how much you choose to go over/extend it..

We have 150 guests and have 3 trucks serving 70 people each, I hope that’s helpful!
