Food Tasting cost

Nathania, on July 1, 2019 at 3:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 29

Hi all! We just booked our venue for August 2020! Our venue does in house catering and they mentioned that they have a group tasting coming up and wanted to see if we wanted to sign up for it. They let us know the cost and I think I was a little taken back because I always assumed the food tasting was complimentary. The cost of private tasting is pretty high too so seems like we'll stick to the group one! Just wondering what everyone else's experience has been with this?

Our caterer doesn't do tastings, but I wouldn't be too surprised if we had to pay to do one since they have to prepare food for us. How many things will you get to sample at the group tasting?

We had to pay for it at our restaurant also. We had a big menu so we only really purchased to try the items we were most interested in

Our tasting was complimentary, however, I have seen other caterers who charge a fee.

Our food tasting was a group event where interested parties were invited to participate. It was complimentary. Our caterer does group tastings every other month free of charge to potential clients.

Our venue has in house catering. You had to book an appointment for the tasting and it was in their restaurant. We got to meet the chef. We had to pay for the tax on the food and if we wanted alcoholic beverages.

Our tasting was complimentary even before we officially booked. We loved the space and our coordinator invited us to make an appointment for a tasting and we were allowed to bring 4 additional guests with us. We ended up booking that day.

Our caterer has group tastings for free, but we had a private tasting since the food we wanted wasn't standard for them. It cost $50 for the two of us.

Our venue has in-house catering. It was complimentary, and we had 6 people (us and both sets of parents). They even gave us complimentary wine.

Our venue has in-house catering and hosts 4 tasting events a year where they feature some of their more popular menu items, as well as some of the wedding vendors they work with. It's free for the couple and $20/person for anyone additional.

That does seem odd. We did three tastings with caterers, all were free. We did two for dessert, both free.

Our tasting is complimentary with the package, we just needed to make arrangements with the staff.

Our venue does complimentary tasting just for the two of us. If we were to bring a family member with us they would have to pay $45. There was another venue we were looking at that didn’t do tasting at all, I find that very weird

Our venue has in-house catering and they do a group open house/tasting event just once a year and it’s $20. They charge $300 for a private tasting and you are allowed to bring up to 6 people total (4 in addition to the couple).

Our caterer had a complimentary tasting and they also have two complimentary Open Houses each year. However, since we weren't a fan of the food we tasted at our initial tasting (they had us choose from their menu and we decided we wanted to try something else), we would have had to pay for any extra tastings. We decided to see what the Open House had available and ended up choosing our menu based on that, but I would have paid to figure out our best option.

Some are complimentary and some are not—it all depends on the catering/venue. Our venue holds a free annual wedding show where they have a buffet of all the menu options.

We hired an outside caterer and had to pay for every tasting. For the one we chose, they said if we went with them the tasting payment would just go towards our ultimate bill...so we kind got that money “back”... I only came across 1 place that had a complimentary tasting, and that place had only a group tasting event on specific dates. It’s not surprising they’re not free, they’re somewhat costly to run making multiple small batch dishes and staffing. We just thought of it as a dinner out !

We skipped tasting because it was too far and too pricey. I think it was $200 for our DW venue catering and $100 for our local catering tasting.
