We will also have about 100 guests. We are doing simple stuff that you'd usually expect at a wedding with sort of an Italian theme - one chicken dish, one fish, and one vegetarian (ravioli) and appetizers are things like caprese skewers and arancini. Delicious and simple!
I did NOT want typical wedding food. Being right after holiday season I was inspired by holiday food and went with carved turkey and pork tender loin. We did a mashed potato bar to go with it. It was a hit!

We're doing a mac and cheese bar with about 14 different toppings for our main meal. Then we will be doing cupcakes and apple crisp with ice cream for dessert. We definitely wanted to stay away from the traditional wedding food.
For cost effective options, I would look into BBQ, Mexican, and Italian. We'll have around 100 people too and we're doing BBQ with 2 meats, salad, and 3 sides -- including a white cheddar mac and it's so good!
