What is your opinion? We have to pick two entrees and two sides which are listed below. I haven't been to many weddings to get a feel for what is a classic meal and our wedding is a rustic theme at a barn type venue so I'm not sure which foods might seem out of place for the setting. Thanks!

Entrees: alfredo or marinara chicken pasta, alfredo or marinara shrimp pasta, bbq pork sandwiches, pot roast with gravy, roasted pork loin, and lemon herb chicken.

  • Sides: green beans, seasoned rice, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, sweet baby carrots, seasoned veggies, roasted potatoes, and mac and cheese.

Personally, I'd choose the pot roast and gravy and lemon herb chicken, with roasted potatoes and seasoned veggies. Both entrees are pretty classic & substantial, but not out of place for a rustic wedding. Pasta can get you into gluten issues. If you're offered substantial proteins for the same cost as pastas, I'd go with the proteins! Sounds delicious!

I personally love pasta, but I don't think I would consider that a rustic wedding food. I think your choices really depend on how laid back you want your wedding to be. If you want something that is really laid back I would suggest the bbq pork sandwiches with mac and cheese or coleslaw. But if you want something more classy, I would go with pot roast with gravy, roasted pork loin, or lemon herb chicken. All three sound really good to me so I would pick whichever two you like better. As for the sides, I think the all sound good. In my opinion, if you want something more classy I wouldn't go with mac and cheese or coleslaw.

Personally, if I was deciding I would go with pot roast with gravy and mashed potatoes and lemon herb chicken with seasoned veggies.

The only problem she could run into if she goes with shrimp pasta is that shellfish is a common food allergy. My fiance is allergic to it so I would be very concerned about this being an option.

Ironically, I am allergic to shellfish myself. The only reason we didn't narrow it out was because guests will get to choose their meal and I know quite a few guests (fiancé included) love seafood.

I vote for the pot roast and chicken with mashed potatoes and greenbeans. Standard wedding food and you usually can't go wrong with those choices

I love shrimp and there were appetizers to choose from for our wedding that had shrimp, but I choose not to have any of them because I don't want my fiance to be around it. I feel like most people either love or hate seafood so even if some love it there might be more people that don't like it so I feel like in this situation it is a know your crowd thing.

Good point. I was thinking fish or chicken, but didn’t think shellfish allergies.

I suggest a meat and a chicken for entrees. Seasoned veggies and seasoned rice. (Seasoned veggies because if people don’t like baby carrots or green beans they are SOL. BUT if there are seasoned veggies they can pick out the ones they don’t like and eat the ones they DO like) just an idea!

I would go with the lemon herb chicken and pot roast and either the green beans/seasoned veggies and mashed potatoes/rice.

Side note: I'm allergic to shellfish and even though people love it (my mom included), I put my foot down. I've gotten sick because of cross contamination before, and I don't want to take chances on my wedding day. That may have been my bridezilla moment. There will be zero shellfish served at my wedding during the cocktail hour or reception.

The one thing that all of my friends asked is that we don't serve "wedding chicken".

If it were me. I would choose

    Alfredo with chicken.
    Roasted potatoes
    Baby carrots
Pot roast but I despise gravy and would make them put it in a separate container

But this is just my opinion.

My vote would be for Roasted Pork Loin and Lemon Herb Chicken with roasted potatoes and green beans. That way you've got your white meat, red meat, starch, and greens.

Taste the gravy first if you go with pot roast or if pork loin has gravy. Gravy can make or break a meal. All the sides sound good (unless the green beans are canned).

All of those options sound so good but the pot roast and herb chicken sound good! Are you able to try any of these at a tasting? I’d maybe steer away from pasta as a side because buffet style pasta tends to be mushy/ over cooked
