Food cost for 200 people.

Do you think 4700 is a lot for 200 people? The meal range from $20-26 dollars so I went in the middle for an estimate. In all reality we probably won't have 200 come but we will be inviting that many. Just seems like alot to me. I'm in the Midwest if that makes any difference.

Nope! I got married in Mn and paid $22 a person. But that was for food. Alcohol was extra and ended up being about $20 per person

That sounds reasonable. I'm in Oklahoma and that's a normal range here for catering. Ours was about $20 per head, not including alcohol.

Omg I don't even want to tell you how much I'm paying for food for 200. That's really low in my opinion, but I'm in a major city.

Wow that's really good then! We're paying $180/pp for cocktail hour, dinner, open bar and that doesn't include venue fees, taxes, or anything else. So seeing what you guys are paying is seriously shocking. $44 is a great deal!

    That's a very reasonable price.

Make sure you are clear on the "service charge" and that it IS different than a service gratuity.

"The service charge is a fee (usually 18-22% around the Los Angeles area) that is added by the venue or independent catering company to act as an operating cost for things such as insurance, advertising, admin staff, trucks maintenance, fuel to get to events, cocktail napkins, and various sundries."

So, your $26 is actually $26 + $5 (20% service charge) + $5 ( 20% gratuity) + $3 (make it easy on my brain, 10% tax) = $39 per person. Still very reasonable, but if I were new to this and didn't know....I wouldn't know it was actually more like $40/person, I would have budgeted for $26/person plus tax. And of course, see if that covers any beverages - most likely water, iced tea, and coffee. If you want alcohol, that's a whole 'nother budget item.

    Best wishes!!

I'm paying almost $130 pp so we are in totally different ballparks lol. So to me, that sounds like an amazing price.

If you were taking someone out to dinner for their birthday, would you think $20-26 was outrageous? No, probably not. Think of your wedding reception the same way.

Nope that seems like a steal for me. We're paying nearly 3,000 for 60p at 47.80 pp.

Man I wish...we're at $45/person and alcohol is another $12/person. We're looking at almost $12k for food and liquor for 200 in the south.

Holy crap that's a good price for the Midwest. I'm on the east coast and you cannot feed 200 for that amount of money

I am a Midwest bride too - I am looking at about 120 per person with food and full bar. I think 44 for food seems awesome as long as it's good

To put that in perspective, I couldn't even feed 50 people for that price... So to me, that's an outrageously cheap price.

Our price per head is around $125 in Florida. Catering is provided by my vendor.

I didn't realize you could get wedding food for that cheap.
