FOB - What does he wear?

RJmargo, on November 10, 2015 at 7:45 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

FH is going to be deciding over the next few weeks what he and his GM are wearing. That got me thinking, what does the FOB wear?

We were thinking the same suit as FH and the GM, just with different accessories (tie and dress shirt). FH's dad is out of the picture, so it just my dad we have to figure out. It's an interfaith wedding with a Priest and a Rabbi and we are likely doing the Jewish custom of the parents standing upfront with the bridal party.

What did/are your FOB and/or FOG wearing? How is it similar or different from what your DH/FH and GM did wear/are wearing?

My groom, my daddy, and my FFIL will all be wearing the same tux, with the same vest and tie. The groomsmen are wearing the same tux, but different color vest and tie to match the bridesmaids.

My dad will be wearing a suit, not the same ones as the BP, just a suit and tie.

My DH and GM wore a very fitted modern tux. Black on black with purple and then a white tie. While my dad's and FIL wore a more traditional tux that wasn't fitted with a white shirt and black tie.

The father's can wear whatever they want that matches the formality of the event. My father just picked a tuxedo he already owned. My fiancé wore his mess dress (so a military tuxedo) and the groomsmen wore tuxedos. No one wore the exact same thing but they all matched the formality.

My dad wore a gray suit that was very similar to the groomsmen and we bought him a matching tie. Like Jeanne said, he can wear whatever he wants so long as the formality of the event matches.

I told my dad that he could wear what he wanted, but he opted to wear what the GM were wearing. Since he paid for the majority of the wedding, DH and I decided to give him the free tux rental (we rented a certain number so we got a free one).

My first wedding was very formal... My father wore a suit. My MIL got really mad about it, but it was all Dad could afford... so it really depends on what everyone is comfortable with, be it suit, tux or whatever...

Whatever they want, honestly. I don't see many of them who match the groomsmen....

FH is wearing a black tux, black shirt and an ivory vest and tie. The groomsmen will also wear black on black with silver vest and tie. Both of the dads will be in black tuxes but they can pick whichever color shirt and vest they want to wear.

Thank you for all the advice! It's helpful to see the variety in what FOBs and FOGs have worn. It's good to know that it's really the formality level that matters the most.

I have asked my dad what he wants to wear and his exact words were "I'll wear whatever you and Joey want me to wear". Based off what everyone said, I think maybe the best thing to do is to bring my dad to the tux store and pick out the look with him.

FHs dad is wearing a suit he already has (he has several nice ones) and my brother (who is walking me down the aisle) decided that he wanted to rent a tux so he chose the same one as the GM. I thought it was a little weird at first, but then I figured "hey, it's a nice tux he can wear it too".

The dads are wearing the same thing as the rest of the groomsmen. Their flowers will be slightly different but they were both in on the decision process so it was something that they at least don't hate.

My dad and FFIL will be wearing the same attire as the groomsmen but with different boutonnieres. They were both very receptive to the idea (more so than I thought they would be) and stated that they would love to be in the same attire.

I still have awhile to make my final decision, but right now I have FH and GM in light grey, and the men in our lives (fathers, grandfathers, brothers) will be in dark grey. I wanted the GM to stand out, but wanted everyone to still look good together in pics.

We did rent a tux for the dads. My dad has a super nice suit that he saves for special occasions and he just wore that. DH's dad ended up getting a new suit for the wedding because he needed one anyways. Both of them looked great!
