So my photographer asked me for a list of combinations of family members for the wedding family portraits so they can organize the names in a way that is most efficient. (Big group of the family first and then people walk away after the photos are done and less moving around). Anyways I sent the list out to both parents asking for their requests. I just got back the list from my FMIL and she gave me 15 combinations and I'm only in 4 of them and my FH is in like 10. Then, there are 6 combinations that don't have me OR my FH in them. Is it wrong for me to feel weird about this? I thought the family photo portraits after the ceremony always have at least the bride and/or the groom in the photo. Maybe I'm not realizing something - please give some insight!

I don't mind if these photos are being taken during the reception or even before the ceremony if the photographer got all the shots he wanted of me and or the groom. I feel like the problem I had with it is that we have a dedicated 30 minutes right after the ceremony for family photos with my FH and/or I and that's it. Thanks everyone for your input - it really helps me have a good plan on how to handle the situation from here on out! :-)

Offer to send them a bill for part of the photographers fee. It is quite selfish of them if you ask me.

That sounds weird. I'd give her 2 minutes to get what she wants done lol

If they didn't pay, they shouldn't have a say in the photos.. the photos ARE supposed to have the bride and groom! It's y'all special day!

I wouldn't even let it happen during the reception, honestly. What if they're off doing it and the photog misses a hilarious dance move or cake cutting or something? Nope to all of this. She can hire her own photographer. I can't believe anyone has the balls to ask for this.

@Catherine we warned our photographers ahead of time that some family members would be wanting photos. They agreed that if that was the case, they would be available to do that on the deck during cocktail hour or during dancing later in the evening. We had two photographers so this worked fine.

Why would you ask them for what combos they wanted in the first place? This is your wedding, not theirs. You choose what photos you want.

If they want family photos without you, they can hire their own photographer.

Thanks Cats. I understand OP wanted to be considerate of her in laws but you can't be surprised when they take it too far. I see this a lot on the sight. You have to be careful when soliciting input from the parents.

I keep coming back to this thread and laughing. And then I realized I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens to me. However I have 4 families to wrangle. I plan on all the parent photos then a picture with my siblings, one with my step-dads family, the entire M-clan (my mom side-we're HUGE), my dad and his parents. done. one can only hope anyways.....

My MIL did this. I felt really awkward during their family photos. I decided it wasn't worth fighting over though. His parents paid for photography as their gift to us so I figured as long as there was time I wouldn't make a fuss. I wasn't a fan though.
