Flowers, bouquets and Boutaineers

Cassi, on May 29, 2019 at 11:46 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 22

Hey Guys, I'm curious how you are planning your bouquets and boutaineers and all of that stuff?

I am doing a destination wedding so I'm looking for some affordable options that are easily transportable. I have talked to some florists in teh area and they are just unrealistic with what they are asking (I got quoted upwards of 2500 just for mine and bridesmaids bouquets and boutaineers). Like I said I want something easily transportable so I know I will be looking at doing fake flowers. Did anyone make there own bouquets? If so how did you decide what to use and di you do fresh flowers or fake flowers? All my centerpieces I am doing fake flowers I'm just trying to do something for us that won't look tacky but won't kill my bank account as well. Open to all and any suggestions!

I am doing fake flowers. I was also quoted around the same price for real flowers and that wasn't happening. I did a lot of research and found this great lady on Etsy. She makes custom bouquets and also has pictures of ones she has done and can make again. I reached out to her and told her what I wanted and she quoted me. She is very reasonable and has great reviews! I bought a cascading bridal bouquet, 3 BM bouquets, 4 bouts and 4 corsages for $400 with shipping. The shop is called DressMyWedding on Etsy. Shes great! Here are some pics of what I ordered.

Those are beautiful! I will definitely look into her! Thank you so much. i'm thinking my bouquet I'll probably get real ones just from a local grocery store like day or or something. But everything else will be fake for sure. Are these silk flowers?

We are doing all fake flowers. A family friend is putting everything together, and we met her at Hobby Lobby last Friday to pick everything out, so I don't have any pictures of them put together yet. We bought them all 50% off so we spent less than $200 for everything. I was a little skeptical of doing fake flowers at first, but once we were there and I saw everything bundled up I really like the way it looks. There's also pricier ones that look so real, especially from a distance. Ling's moment sells fake flowers (they're on amazon) and I think they are very high quality, but they are a bit more expensive.

Depending on where your destination is you could buy flowers from a local grocery store and tie them together. that's what we did for my best friend's wedding it was super easy. There were 5 bouquets including the bride's and then 7 boutonnieres. I think we spent about $200 and had left over roses and eucalyptus for some simple centerpieces. Maybe check with your hotel if there is a local store they recommend aside from the florists.

My sister got married out of state, and she ordered her flowers from Etsy. She chose silk so they would be durable, and had them delivered right to her in-laws. Maybe the reception at your hotel or venue might be able to hold on to them for you if you mail yours ahead of you? Where is your destination?

Someone in another discussion mentioned Something Borrowed Blooms... I'm DEFINITELY going with them. They are really affordable (and beautiful) and it takes the worry of having to do any DIY.

I did sola wood bouquets. Bought the kits to do it myself. I love too that I'll be able to display my bouquet forever, and my bridesmaids are all excited and keeping theirs as well. I paid under $200 for all bouquets and boutonnieres. I did have to shop around on Etsy for that price but I loved the flexibility of choosing exactly which flowers and which colors. I imagine these would be easy to transport as well, being they're wood. They're also very lightweight if that is a concern.

Those are beautiful! I thought about the wood flowers. My maid of honor got married two years ago and we did her wedding in the grand cayman during our cruise and she did the wood flowers because she couldn't bring real flowers back on the boat and they were beautiful. i just haven't found them that affordable yet. But I love the way they look. Maybe I will still keep shopping around. I have definitely come to the idea of fake flowers just a matter of what kind of fake flowers. Did you do a throw bouquet if so was it wooden as well?

Yeah possibly. I'd probably bring them up with us and have them in the cabin though. Definitely don't want to trust other people with them god forbid something goes wrong and I have no flowers on my wedding day lol. We are renting cabins in the great smoky mountains for the wedding party and so far all our guests have booked there as well. We are getting married in gatlinburg TN at 4points farm.

I still haven't made up my mind about the throw bouquet, if I decide to though, I have plenty of extra flowers for that. I'll tell you what I wish someone had told me. You can order from Etsy. The shop i used was Luv2doityourself. She was truly amazing, answered almost immediately to my thousand questions and was super helpful and affordable. You can message her and tell her what your looking for and she will give you a quote. I highly recommend her I can't say enough good things but, if i knew then what i know now i would have done things differently.
If you're on a budget, like most of us are, then you can do this instead:
Order the exact sola flowers you want from ebay. The 'dye' is truthfully just walmart acrylic paint. I didn't know this until I received my "kit". I ordered extra dye in my kit because i wasn't sure about which exact shades I wanted. Those ran me $6 each ($24 total). I ended up going to Walmart and buying different colors (6 bottles, 2 of each color $0.50 each) which was $3 total. That's the colors you see on my flowers. Or you could buy a bottle of rit dye (this is a more transparent color, so you can have the see through color or let them dry COMPLETELY then redye until you achieve your desired color.
Other things that come in your kit is floral tape, which you can buy from dollar tree ($1) or walmart has them in packs of 4 for like $3.50.
I also made the mistake of ordering a corsage kit too. That literally consisted of 2 separate flowers and a 12" piece of ribbon to tie around the wrist. This cost an extra $15. You can buy ribbon very pretty from dollar tree or walmart for $0.50-$1 and you have THE WHOLE ROLL!

Another item in my kit was wire stems for the flowers and also about 10 glue sticks. You can buy a bag of 20 glue sticks from dollar tree.

Along with my kit I also purchased something my Etsy seller offers as a 'RIP BAG' of 60 flowers. These were flowers that supposedly had defects. Out of those 60 there were only 4 that I couldnt use because they were daisies and some of the petals had broken off. The RIP bag costs $20 + $10 shipping. If I had known this now, I would have just purchased 2 of those from her because she will ship EVERYTHING you buy for the flat $10. Then I would have bought all my other supplies on my own, which I ended up doing anyhow bc I didn't have enough glue sticks, twine, etc.

Twine is also at dollar tree and comes in a pack of 3 rolls.

The only thing that would cost you anything over $1 would be greenery or filler. But you can get this on sale at Michael's or Joanne's for probably $10.

Sorry this is so long, but heres a breakdown of what I could have paid vs what I did pay.

I Paid $199 for the following:
Included in my stay kit was:
    Approximately 1 yard lace
    12" ribbon
    1 roll twine
    10 glue sticks
    60 RIP flowers
2 flowers in separate ziploc bag for corsage
    66 flower heads for bouquets
    66 wire stems
    1 roll floral tape
    2 bunches of greenery
    3 bottles of acrylic paint

I could have paid this: $73.50 (and had plenty left over)
    2x RIP flowers $50 (120 flowers total)
    Greenery from craft store $10
    20 glue sticks $1
    3 rolls twine $1
6 bottles of acrylic paint $3
    3 yards of ribbon $1
    3 yards of lace $1
    4 rolls floral tape $3.50
Floral wire stems $1 ea for bag of 20; TTL $3

This was enough to make 5 bouquets and 1 corsage.

    Hope this helps you out!

Hi Casi! I've been looking into Something Borrowed Blooms. It's an online based company where you can actually rent all of your bouquets, corsages, bouts, centerpieces, etc. They ship the flowers to you two days before the wedding and return the day after the event. Check out their website and let me know what you think.

So I took the plunge... I was pretty sold on sola as my bestfriend did this for her wedding (except she bought them from etsy premade which was out of my budget). I was at hobby lobby today and they had a massive sale so I bought a bunch of 3" sola flowers for literally nothing. I started the dying process and this is where I am currently. I was nervous cause reviews I read but Its so easy I've enjoyed it so much. I got 40 flowers for $15.. paint I already had ( I do a lot of crafts) so right now I have 3" flowers. I went on the sola website and order a 50 pack small assortment for like $20 or a little less so just need those to come in. I'm gonna get some 2" flowers as well. I definitely think all 5 bridesmaid bouquets, bridal bouquet, throw bouquet, 9 boutonnieres and 2 corsages will come in under $150 easily. This has been a lot of fun so far!

Oh that definitely makes sense. In that case bringing them with you sounds smart, and silk or wood would probably travel pretty well with you

Check out Qfloralstudio on Etsy! That's where we got all our silk flowers for the wedding party. I think it was like 19 pieces for around $350. I think we caught a free-shipping special too. We got 1 bride bouquet, 4 bridesmaids bouquets, 1 groom bout, 1 officiant bout, 3 dad bouts, 5 groomsmen bouts, and 4 mom corsages
