Flower petal alternatives??

Amber, on August 18, 2013 at 1:39 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

Our venue has let us know that we're not allowed to use flower petals when walking down the aisle (it's a conserved nature area) - and we've got three flower girls. What the heck do you think we could do instead? We could probably get away with using a small amount of petals and having our coordinator clean up right after, but any other ideas? Don't love the idea of bubbles.

Why not just have them carry those flower balls and not throw anything? Flower girls are there to be cute anyways who cares if they are throwing stuff lol.

The 3 flower girls could carry pomanders (kissing balls) or 3 signs "Here" "Comes" "the Bride"

    I've seen a few things.

FSIL couldn't throw petals so she had her florist arrange flowers in the flower girl basket that matched the bridesmaid bouquets. Flower girl and ringbearer walked down the aisle together holding hands. They're three, and only a few weeks apart.

FH's cousins wedding the girls had long stemmed flowers and handed them out randomly to women in the pews.

Or you could have them carry flower balls.

Justawedding - Rice will swell inside birds stomachs causing them to die.

The idea of no throwing petals of any kind is to prevent bringing disease into the area. She could end up bringing a fungus into the area that kills all those flowers that make the space beautiful to begin with.

Our venue wouldn't allow us to use petals either but they gave us the okay to use dried lavender. Apparently it smells nice and looks good in photos but some guests could be allergic.

I've read about someone throwing lavender beads which is also very fragrant; however I'm not sure what that would do to the environment. Also, I think waving a flag "the bride is coming" or ringing a bell.

Perhaps fake/ silk pedals will work.

We also aren't allowed to throw petals. I asked the florist for suggestions and she recommended the flower balls or flower arrangements in a small basket like others have suggested.

I officiated a wedding where I rang a bell as the bride came down the aisle -- the flower girls could do that. I also officiated a wedding where the guests threw white feathers after the ceremony.

If your venue allows, and you are into bubbles, perhaps you could decorate bubble bottles with flowers all around and let the girls blow bubbles down the aisle.

If you're going the bubbles route, you can get a few small bubble machines and place them inconspicuously along the isle. They'll create a beautiful wall of bubbles, if the wind cooperates. Smiley smile

We are not allowed to throw anything either so we were thinking since our RB is little, we may putt the pillow with the rings inside the FG basket
