Flower Girls Selection Help

Trinity, on December 17, 2019 at 3:08 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5

I read that FG and RB should be between age of 3-7. So here's my problem. I wanted to have my friend's 2 years old, and my cousin's 9 years old daughter, but did not want my cousins of 9 and 11. My ring bearers are 5. My problem is that my aunt volunteered her two kids to be in my wedding, but I find 11 years old to be too old. I can't have 1 girl and not the other 1 at my wedding, I do not want 4 either. I prefer to have younger ones since they do look cuter. I also don't want Junior BM. What should I do? What outfits should they wear? Thank you!

Flower girls/ring bearers can be whatever age you want them to be, they don't HAVE to be any certain age. The age range you mentioned is definitely more common, but hey some brides have had their grandma's as flower girls. For us, our flower girls will be my nieces who are 7 & 11 (almost 12).

I would just tell your aunt that you already have flower girls, your friend's 2 y/o and your other cousin's 9 y/o. They can wear whatever you want them to wear; a white/ivory dress, a colorful dress, or something totally different.

My ring bearers are my nephews who will be 10 and 6, so I think 11 is fine. I'm not having any flower girls. However, I agree that 4 flower girls is too many unless you have a huge bridal party and guest count. Because of that, I would probably stick with the younger girls, but maybe you can give the 9 and 11 year olds some other responsibility? If you don't have formal ushers they could help pass out programs, or they could spend the morning with you getting ready.

I’m having my great niece 7 niece 9 and I was totally surprised when my 13 yr old niece showed interest in being my flower girl!! She’s been waiting her whole life she said!! How cute is that!?!?!

I gave them 3 dress choices and they decided together.

    Hey Trinity!

To reiterate what the previous commenters have said, there is no age range on being a flower girl. As long as they are happy with their role and enthusiastic about being a part of your wedding, then great!

You are under no obligation to involve anyone in yoru wedding that you don't want so I would simply tell your aunt that you are grateful for her offer but you already have your flower girls chosen.

Theres no specific age for any of it. whomever you want to be FG and RB then have them be that. the 11 year old can be a junior bridesmaid. i would suggest having another FG to accompany the 2 year old down the aisle.
