Flower Girl... flowers?

JS081615, on July 2, 2014 at 5:07 PM Posted in Planning 7 28

How many of you are having your flower girl drop actual flower petals? I have it in the budget but I just saw an idea on pinterest (of course) to drop small paper hearts. It looked so cute and it will save $! Plus it's a VERY easy DIY.

Has anyone seen something other than flower petals dropped? How does it look? I've honestly never been to a wedding where it WASN'T flowers.

My flower girl didn't drop anything - she had her own bouquet of flowers that she carried down the aisle. It was super cute and less messy.

I just finished my flower girl petals that I got from deconstructed fabric flowers that I got on sale at hobby lobby. I actually just finished this massive project. (I'm also using them for my send off so I had to trim 2,400 fabric petals.)

We are not doing the whole flower petal thing because our church actually won't let anyone do it anymore since it's messy and stuff. Instead our little flower girl is having her own mini bouquet in a basket so that she can still carry a basket around (since I didn't want to break her heart because she was excited about carrying one)

Thanks everyone! I actually didn't even think about whether the venue allows us to throw/drop anything. I guess I should find that out! If not I like the idea of a bouquet. We're doing mostly silk flowers so it won't be too much of an added cost. Thanks!

Even though the flower girl is a little kid, I would still communicate with her beforehand so she knows what to expect --- when I was 3 or 4, I was a flower girl and everyone explained to me that I would be tossing flower petals. Then the morning of the wedding I was handed a basket full of cut-out satin hearts and whatnot... no flower petals! I walked down the aisle with a grumpy face, throwing the cut-outs behind me angrily. I'm sure all the adults thought it was cute, but I remember being mad about it for a long time (yes... I was apparently a little drama queen lol).

My venue specified that we had to have real petals. My florist said this wasn't a problem and even suggested a mix of petal colors to go with the theme of my wedding (varying shades of purple and white). I think it'll look really beautiful. Smiley smile

I think the paper hearts are a very cute idea. If you do paper hearts the venue should be ok with it unless your wedding is outside.

Our flower girl will throw real petals (the venue won't allow anything else in the garden). We should have plenty left over from the bulk flowers we're buying and if not, I will just pluck some from my yard, lol. Our jr bridesmaids will have flower wands that our florist is making.

I'm not doing petals. One of my flower girls is pretty young and I'm actually afraid she might try to eat them. I'm with yuly on the wands, I found it online and fell in love with the idea.

My aunt worked for a florist for a decade and she said people came to the shop often to get bags of rose petals. The florist would collect them by color and style and kept them in the refrigerator. He said he normally just handed bags out if people asked for scraps or would charge $1 for a large bag full. Doesn't hurt to call around and see if they do this!

Ours will be dropping fake petals out of a basket. The chapel does not allow real flower petals on the white marble floors due to risk of staining it.
