Flower budget?

Ash2582, on September 23, 2015 at 4:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

I am planning for flowers now, and have no clue what to budget for it. I will need minimal for centerpieces as we already have lanterns, and I am not into fancy expensive flowers either. We are talking minimal here lol. Rose petals for aisle, and typical reception flowers. 7 bridesmaids, 6 grooms. We are in PA, and wedding is in July. Helppppp!

Are you talking DIY here or going through a florist? If you're going through a florist, your best bet is to just set up some appointments and go talk to some to get quotes. The prices are going to vary so much from region to region and will also depend greatly on the type of flowers you want, if they are in season at the time of your wedding, etc. "Typical reception flowers" means something different to everyone really.

I agree with Summer - for me and my total overall budget, WW estimates I should be spending $600, but I will likely be allocating $250-300 for florals. I am going to buy bulk baby's breath, ferns/greens, and some wildflower type flowers from Costco and some online floral websites. I'm not looking for anything fancy or difficult - very loose arrangements. I also only have one bridal party member. I still think I'm going to DIY, but it won't be budget breaking if I have someone make two bouquets and some boutonnieres.

We did DIY floral arrangements and probably had about half the amount you're wanting. I ordered flowers in bulk from Sam's and got hydrangeas, ferns, baby's breath, white stock, and carnations for a little under $400. They turned out lovely and made my cascading bouquet, two bridesmaids bouquets, 8 boutinerries, 4 corsages, some little bundles we tied to the chairs lining the aisle, and two large buckets on either side of the alter with a little left over. We didn't incorporate them into our centerpieces though. Sam's does carry rose petals and have some wedding packages you may want to look into. Keep in mind it took us half a day and a lot of helpful family members to put our arrangements together and I had to empty my fridge to store the bouquets and such. You may want to look into a florist if that's a concern for you.

Be sure to also budget for corsages and boutonnieres. People could get offended if they don't get one (at least the VIPs, that is). We did them for the parents, grandparents, and aunts/uncles.

If you want to save money you could always DIY your flowers but I will warn you that they take quite a while and are harder than you think. I didn't even realize what went into it until we got going. Luckily my mom is awesome at that kind of thing and has done flowers for family weddings before (that were stunning) but even with that it took many hours when we could have been relaxing/sleeping.

In total I think we spent around $200 for flowers. We had a small wedding with 35 people so we ended up with 4 tables for centerpieces, my bouquet, 2 BM bouquets, about half a dozen each of corsages and boutonnieres, and since we had a tonleft over we put arrangements around the venue (we over ordered). Check around and see where has the best prices in your area.

Do you want real or is fake ok? Fake flowers can be much cheaper than real. (I used the website www.budget-bride.com and they were great!)

Are you willing to DIY or pay for someone to make them? DIY can be cheaper but takes a lot more time.

What flowers do you want? Getting things that are local and in season will be cheaper (if going with real flowers). Fake flowers will be about the same price no matter what.

    What colours do you want?

You can't make a budget until you know what you want.

I spent about $500 on my wedding (my bouquet, 3 BM bouquets, groom bout and 5 other bouts, 2 corsages and about 12 centerpieces) but those were fake flowers (roses) and the centerpieces were DIY by my mom.

I have the same kind of deal for flowers. We spent 2,000 but that is with a lot of unnecessary flowers. We have miss for under the lanterns and flowers and vines going up the stands and falling out of the center. We have a garland for the outside fireplace, which will be moved inside for the reception. I have 2 bouquets (one for bridals). Both at gigantic and like two normal bouquets put together. 6 bms bouquets, 6 gms bouts, 4 parent/grandparent/ others bouts, one wrist corsage. We have 15 tables right now. All of my flowers are seasonal and not the fancy flowers. Expect for two, literally two stems of King protea, google them and you will see why only two, which are like 15 dollars a stem. We are in Texas. And our florist has been in several national magazines and websites and such. Hope that helps!

In the neighborhood of $700 for personal flowers. I can't give you any info on "typical reception flowers". That's relative.

I'm spending $3000. That's going to pay for 14 tables at reception-6 high and 8 low centerpieces. The sweetheart table which will be decorated with candles, vases and the bridesmaids bouquets and the Mr. and Mrs. sign. He's going to decorate the card table for us and two additional centerpieces for the ceremony along with the aisle runner and petals and candles along the isles of the ceremony. Really depends on how simple or elaborate you want it , also what your budget is

The flower budget is actually becoming a huge issue for me right now, the florist gave us a budget of $6000..... granted I have 9 bridesmaids, 9 groomsmen and about 18 tables -- there's just no way to cut it down. Something to take into consideration is making your bridesmaids bouquets smaller and not with crazy expensive flowers. Unfortunately, the flowers are not cheap and it sucks, but flowers are kind of necessary at a wedding... good luck!

I went to a florist and told her my budget was $600. She then quoted me $1,100 (bouquets, boutonnières, corsages, centerpieces) and she was like that doesn't even include your ceremony decor and this is with cheaper flowers.

I was like uhhh did you not hear me say my budget is $600????? So my fiancé didn't feel like arguing over prices so he was like we'll increase the budget to $1,500.

Well fast forward a week later I called them up and cancelled. I will be doing my own flowers and plan on spending no more than $600, and have everything looking like I paid $5,000 for it lol. I can't pay that much for flowers. So I will be gathering a group of girls a few days before the wedding to help make the floral arrangements.

A good rule of thumb is about 10% of your total wedding budget is flowers.

That's all highly dependent on what types of flowers, how many arrangements you need, and if the flowers are in season.

We spent 400.00 and ordered them online for delivery 4 days prior to the wedding. We got hydrangeas, spray roses, greenery, pink roses, hypericum berries, white aster, and babies breath.

We made 5 bouquets, 7 boutanniares, 10 centerpieces, a dozen other jars were filled with flowers, 6 jars down the aisle, we made the wedding arch thing beautiful ( pic attached), and 6 arrangements for the rehearsal dinner, and flowers for the cake. We got so much for 400 and it turned out so beautiful!

We saved a ton, but of course it is a bit of work. I had about 2 hours of work once the flowers arrived. I then stored them for 2 days and then myself and 3 bridesmaids made everything listed above. We actually enjoyed ourself but again, it does add a bit of stress as you will be working on it the day before your wedding.

In the end, I have no doubt we saved at least 1000 doing it ourself.

Every florist is different. Check some of your local florists, many have their "starting" prices listed.

    Here's mine:

    $175 bride

    $75 bridesmaids

    $15 bouts

    $40 centerpieces (mason jars)

    $65 centerpieces (cubes, fancier)

    $200 aisle petals

Multiply out what you need. Don't forget to add sales tax! Are you picking the flowers up (no delivery charge) or will you have them delivered? (delivery charges vary - my minimum delivery charge for nearby, personal flowers is $75. Farther away, lots of set-up, can be up to $225).

    Good luck!

Flowers are in no way a necessity. You can use nonfloral centerpieces. (At my son's wedding, they used books.) You and your wedding party can carry bunches of wildflowers, nonfloral alternatives (e.g., Bibles, clutches, parasols), or nothing at all. So get some quotes on what you'd ideally like, but don't feel obligated to bust your budget on flowers unless they are really important to you.
