Florists and Whole Foods….

Dj Tanner, on March 5, 2020 at 11:05 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 26
I think I am pretty set on the idea of not having a florist at this point. We are having an outdoor wedding at one of the most beautiful venues in my state and they have a lot of their own floral already there. The only thing I would really need are bridesmaids bouquets and floral centerpieces for the tables. I will also need some loose flowers for the flower girls as well as some ceremonial floral decor. With that said, the prices for a florist are outrageous in my opinion. I was thinking of going through Whole Foods, and alsoMe and my fiancé planned on scavenging wildflowers a day or two before my wedding and using those as additional decor for the tables.Has anyone used Whole Foods or any market place floral for simple floral arrangements. I personally do not like fake flowers. If you’re doing it that’s totally cool but I personally just cannot do fake floral. Any opinions on Whole Foods floral or something like a market? All opinions welcomeBoth positive and negative, thanks!

I’ve been seeing a lot of people order their flowers thru places like Costco and Trader Joe’s too

Yeah I’ve actually never even been to a Costco’s but sometimes when I go into my local grocery store I see their floral arrangements and It’s like 15 bucks for this gorgeous bouquet. The one florist that was vendor preferred and right down the street from my house has an $8000 minimum for peak wedding season! I felt embarrassed even inquiring to them LOL

I think it’s totally fine to get florals from a market! In fact it’s a very savvy budget idea

My sister in law and my sister's friend went through a marketplace (Kroger) and their flowers were really nice and very budget friendly. Most bouquets for brides are like $100 but they can be more like $50. Just be careful who you talk to because I had a shady lady at Kroger that broke things off (she wanted me to pay her directly).

Cool, thanks for the tip I’ll keep this all in mind! One of my biggest fears is working with shady vendors.

Totally fine to get flowers from a grocery store! The reason the price is different is they aren’t the same quality and won’t last as long but if you don’t need a ton of flowers I think it’s a great way to save money.

Yeah this is what we’re doing for our tables. It’s gonna be pretty basic so I think as long as I ordered ahead of time I should be good

Our tables looked really similar! Garland is super expensive no matter where you get it unfortunately. I would price out a few different grocery stores!

I'm using florals from Trader Joe's. Picking up the day before so my MOH and I can make the bouts and bouquets, then we'll store them overnight in the fridge until we have to go. Getting hair and makeup done offsite, but everything should be good for a couple of hours once we pull them out in the morning as long as they are sitting in water until we get to the venue.

Are you just picking up whatever they have in store or pre ordering what you want ahead of time then going to pick up?

I'm just picking up the day before. I did a mock up about a month ago with basic white roses and eucalyptus (I'm not a flower girl so the more simple the better). If they have a seasonal that I like at that time great (3 weeks!), if not then I'll just get whatever looks pretty.

Cool. I was wondering whether I could order specific flowers through them since I shop there every week! I got a lovely seasonal bouquet there last night. It has a protea flower which I LOVE!!

    I believe that you can!

This is my second wedding so I am much less concerned with the details and more concerned with making sure our wedding day is about us...hence the easy going about the flowers.

Yeah I mean for what I want I think I definitely have to pre-order some stuff like the greenery. but my colors are all neutral tones so even if I scavenge wild flowers the day before It’ll still all match.

Yes my main concern is that I want there to be a lot of food and I want it to be goodAnd I don’t want people to leave and have to go to get fast food after, so we’re spending a lot on our music and food and decor. Everything else like expensive florist, photographer, limousines, all of that other stuff we don’t want

Yes well here was my idea… We have hundreds upon hundreds of wild ferns that grow around where we live, so we were thinking of instead of using eucalyptus or Garland just using the ferns stems. We figured we could scavenge all of those the night before, but again this is just when idea that we were thinking of.We plan on testing out the look before we actually do it

Our wedding was last month, and we were in the same boat as you! We didn’t want to spend a ton of money on florals because our venue was a tropical garden and already had so much greenery and wildlife. We considered Whole Foods, but we ended up going to a flower market/wholesaler to save money. The centerpieces were simple, but it worked out beautifully! Our planner and her team kindly assembled them. Here’s a pic. Definitely shop around. You don’t need a florist. Good luck!Florists and Whole Foods…. 2

The only thing I could see posing a problem is how long those flowers last. If that is not a concern of yours, then those flowers are beautiful and can work really well!
