Florist Payment Question

WeAreOne0822, on February 2, 2015 at 9:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

When you are ready to place your order with the florist, is full payment required? I haven't met with any of them yet (still searching) but wanted to see if this vendor requires full payment. I know all florist may have different policies on this, but just wanted to see what everyone else has encountered.

Thanks all!!!

Mine had a save the date deposit, then a 50% payment 6 months out, and my final balance is due two weeks before the wedding. This probably isn't true for all florists, but this is what mine did.

Mine required a deposit of 30%. I can make changes up to a month before the wedding if I need to but I can't adjust the order downward more than 15% of original contract amount. Final payment is due a month before the wedding.

Mine was very similar to what Kelsey said. Deposit to save the date and then balance 2 weeks out with option to make payments in between. All the florists I got quotes from were like this or had a 2nd payment around 6 months out.

I gave a deposit to book my date. Rest due 1 month before wedding. Once I get swatches from all dresses (BM and Me) I have to give them to my florist.

Mine usually asks for a deposit, but they had a special that if I paid in full by December 30th I got 50% off my order. I totally went for it.

We were required to make a deposit to secure the date with the remaining balance due one month prior to the wedding.

We had to pay our deposit when we booked and the rest is due in march! Our florist is actually the partner of our doc so that helps too!

Eta: I calculated- our deposit was 20%

Mine was 20% I think with remainder due less then a month before the wedding. We also got 20% off if we booked within 30 days of our origional meeting day with them.

Most require a non-refundable retainer. This books them for your date. It is non-refundable as they are turning away other business on that date, and they are spending time planning your wedding. It depends on the floral designer what the retainer is. I personally charge $250, others charge up to 50%.

For me, final payment is due six weeks prior to the wedding. This is also where we finalize any changes (I have my couples hold off emailing me changes throughout, but pin any ideas to a shared pinterest board). The six weeks allows time for the check to clear the bank, and then I will order vases and flowers, which should be done a month before the wedding.

I am a control freak and have seen a lot of brides get taken on wedding flowers. I either pay for them to make me samples so I can see what I am getting or I pay 75% of total cost and then will give them the other 25% when I have went and looked at the flowers set up and do my final inspections. I make my demands clear from the beginning. At a friends wedding I was in charge of her reception set up and delivery. I went to all vendor appointments with her and I made everything up front and clear what was to be expected. The florist showed up with wilted roses in her centerpieces. I picked them out right in front of the florist and gave them 30 minutes to fix them. They did and I called the owner while they were fixing them. Another friend had no one in charge of her reception and trusted the vendors to come in and set up. She rented crystal stand vases for her centerpieces and got clear plastic and her flowers were not the color she ordered. I would of been having someone's head on a chopping block. If you cannot find someone to be in charge of your reception set up and deliveries make the time to go look for yourself before hand. Flowers are expensive make sure you get what you pay for. Good Luck!!!!

My florist required us to put down a $200 deposit and the rest of the balance was due 4 weeks prior to the wedding.
