Floral Vendor for NYIT de Seversky Mansion (Old Westbury, NY)

arorapower2018, on November 8, 2017 at 4:48 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 13

Any other brides getting/were married at NYIT de Seversky Mansion out on Long Island and had the "European" dinner setup for approx 220 people? I'm about to start speaking with the vendor's preferred vendors (which I need to choose from) and I have some idea of how many flowers I want, but interested in which vendor you went with and approximate cost. I have a city-based vendor and when I gave her my initial WW budget, she severely increased my floral budget. After reading some of these "ny floral" threads, I'm thinking I may not need to spend more than 4-5k.

I used Stylish Events in Hicksville - they were the most affordable for me. Another Long Island vendor I was going to use - Flowers by Brian - were way too expensive. I spent less than $2400 for 150 guests.

We have to use one of their preferred vendors or we're subject to a $500 surcharge. Options are the following: Bella Flowers, James Anthony Floral & Event Desing, Petals Floral & Party Desing, Scarsella's, United Floral Events. I've been told that James Anthony and Petals have the freshest flowers of the vendors by someone at the venue, and I really loved the lower centerpieces that Petals displayed at the bridal showcase. James Anthony tends to showcase tall centerpieces, which I dont want bc we're eating in two spaces with a small wall in between and I dont want to block any more views.

I second @GreeneBunny! We met Sonya from Black Dahlia and loved them! Very affordable too!

Not fa nothing, but I hate that policy. You should be able to use the people you want to use.

If you make an outside vendor aware of that charge, a lot of times they'll adjust their pricing to make it worth it for you. That's the same policy my venue on Long Island had, and while I thought it would be really frustrating at first, every vendor I met with off the preferred list was more than willing to adjust their price to make up that $500 cost.

I ended up using our preferred florist anyway because they were great. I used Pedestals in Garden City. My consultant nailed what I wanted. and I was quoted under 3k.

Thanks for all the advice- I'll certainly look into a few non-preferred as well.

I've seen Petals before too, and their work is good.

But here is the thing. Those vendors who are 'preferred"? Many times they are paying to be preferred. And guess who gets to cover that cost?

    Yep.

I'd meet with other florists who may ALREADY be less expensive than the ones who are in house, and see how it goes.

Here's another thing. I work in a lot of venues that have a very limited (in some cases two...) list of florists. And every time I go there, the flowers look EXACTLY the same. As in autopilot.

    I know 500.00 isn't a small amount, but I'd do some exploring.

Thank you, Celia, I dont have a specific vision yet for the flowers, but all of this is good to hear. I appreciate it!

Check out Masters & Co. in Rockville Centre. They did my flowers at a much lower cost than I ever thought possible and they were gorgeous and exactly what I wanted. Their price could be low enough to incur the non-preferred vendor fee and then some.

Just an FYI - I would never use a venue that required me to use their vendors or I would try and negotiate that out of the contract. It's such a blatant kick-back.

I’m getting married at de Seversky this June. We met with James Anthony and Petals, and decided to go with Petals. We felt like Diana from Petals really understood our vision and was very comprehensive during our consultation. It took her about a week to put together a proposal, whereas James Anthony sent me the proposal in one day. The pricing is dependent on what type of flowers you choose, etc. However, James Anthony and Petals were both around the same price for the same type and amount of flowers. If you want to have complete florals for the wedding (centerpieces, escort card table decorations, candles, etc.), both vendors will be around $5k.

We did end up going with Diana from Petals as well. Our number is totaling slightly over what you mentioned for estimated 220 attendees, but we're also getting a separate escort card display, possible additions of florals for the patio ceremony. It is what it is at this point Smiley smile

    Thank you for everyone's suggestions!
