Floral budget?

Liz827, on March 28, 2016 at 3:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

Tried the search bar, but posts from 2013 don't really help (please for the love of god fix the damn search tool!)

I know nothing about flowers except that I have no idea how much they cost. FH and I were looking at our budget excel sheet over the weekend to correct our venue costs. Since we met food/bev min we don't have to pay the ceremony fee. Welp I noticed we only have $500 down for flowers.

How do you create a floral budget? Do you base it off I want ____ flower regardless if its in season or not, or do you base it off of what flower grows during the season you are getting married? We have 7 BM's, 7 GM's, and with guest count have around 14 tables that will need centerpieces.

I am looking around $600 plus With 7 gm/bn, plus gmas, gpas, moms, dads, ring bears, bride bouquet. This does not include any centerpieces. And this is just a guesstimate.

I would just contact a ton of florists and see what the prices are that they are giving you and go from there. In-season flowers are always going to be cheaper.

I'm paying about 1500 for all of mine. It really depends on what you want and how much you want. and the type of flowers. Walk into a local flower store most do weddings or should be able to point you in the right direction for pricing near you.

Contact multiple florists and ask what they can do for your budget and they'll tell you if it can work and give you other options. Also look at Sams and Costco and see if what they offer works for you. Look at craft stores and online and see if silk flowers are an option you might consider. Can you do simple DIY's? Check it all.

We were in the same boat basically. I had no idea what type of budget to give floral. We also just put $500 down in our budget for flowers and I was really hoping that would cover us. I got several quotes (all I really need is bouquets, bouts, corsages...no huge arrangements or anything) and that ranged from $600-$1000, even with the florist talking me into flowers that were in season.

My venue recommended calling Harris Teeter (ours evidently specializes in wedding flowers, who knew?) Anyway their price for all of that AND bulk flowers for centerpieces was under $400.

As far as finding flowers in season, I showed them several pictures of what I saw on Pinterest that I liked, so they could have an idea of colors/shape.

I'm pretty clueless about which flowers are which. I knew what colors I wanted and a general look (large, fluffy flowers, not tight perfect roses). I talked to two different florists and gave them my general vision/colors and they got more into specifics as far as exactly which flowers would be good. I did express that flowers were not super high on our priority list for budget, so they would be looking at more inexpensive varieties. For my bouquet, 7 BM bouquets, 8 bouts for groom/GM, 7-8 corsages, and 9-10 other bouts, one place quoted $750 and the other was $1300. I got a much better vibe from the $750 quote - the florist seemed really excited about my ideas, like she understood the feel/look I was going for, and also seemed more flexible.

Sorry this turned into a novel! Probably also worth noting that I'm in rural South Dakota, so a very inexpensive area.

I put a few feelers out this morning but I havn't heard anything back yet.

I can totally make everything, but I have no time to set it up. Our ceremony starts at 11am.

Also, is it okay to re purpose BM's bouquets as centerpieces? I don't want them to just get tossed after the ceremony.

    Thanks guys!

For everything for us is a little under 3k that includes bouquets, ceremony, reception, center prices, etc. I had no idea what to expect. My mom is paying for our wedding and knew that it would be around the. I had sticker shock.

I'm paying about 1500 for ceremony decor, 9 bouquets, 11 bouts, 3 corsages.

$500 seems low for all those personal flowers and centerpieces. I would just start by emailing florists near you, tell them what you need and see what their price ranges are. Definitely let them know you're willing to work with in-season flowers.

    Good luck!

Your floral budget is however much you want to/can spend on flowers. Then you prioritize and look at your options and see what that will get you.

I'm planning to spending less than $500 including delivery and taxes. But the florist is only doing the things that will be in lots of photos: my bouquet and 1 middling-size arrangement for the ceremony arch, and cake flowers. All the other decor is borrowed or DIYed (BM bouquets from grocery store at about $10 each will also decorate the gift and guestbook tables, centerpieces borrowed from relative who DIYed her daughter's wedding) You don't HAVE to have floral centerpieces, BM bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages. They're just nice extras.

ETA - don't forget about grocery store florists! They can be talented and very, very inexpensive. A lot of Whole Foods, for instance, have great reviews for wedding flowers. Only drawback, they don't deliver or do setup. And it's fine to reuse ceremony decor at the reception. My ceremony arch arrangement will be taken inside and put on the mantelpiece of the reception room's fireplace, for instance. And the BM bouquets will decorate the gift and guestbook tables. My bouquet will probably get stuck in a vase to decorate our table.

I didn't create a budget for it. I just looked around at prices (which is hard, cause everything is custom). then I met with a florist I liked and got her quote. decided to cut a few things here and there and if the price was reasonable, I went with it.

    my bouquet, 3 BMs, 5 corsages, 7 bouts, 16 centerpieces, 2 massive pieces (1 cocktail, 1 reception), cake accents, 3 accent garlands - $2,500.

If you are going the traditional florist route expect to spend at least 2k, probably closer to 3 for what you want. I have 6BM, 8GM, 10 centerpieces and mine is 2k. That took a lot of shopping around, I got quotes up to 10k.

Depending on the flowers, and if you can go through a grocery store you might be able to get that number down, esp. If you double BM bouquets as centerpieces (just make sure they are hardy flowers that do well out of water).

For a professional florist, with you + 7 BMs and 14 tables needing centerpieces, I would estimate you need a budget of at least $2k. That is a minimum. It can of course go way up from that depending on how elaborate you get.

For $500, you will not be able to hire a professionals. You'll have to do them yourself.

For centerpieces I decided on DIY. I bought the paper lamps cheap and will use just one or two flowers. Maybe even artificial for centerpiece so I can make ahead. Then I will buy BM and my flowers and the guy's flowers. My friend has a contact through a vocational school called BOCES in my area that teaches flower arrangement. So I can get them almost at cost. Maybe you have something similar in your area.

I bought some of my decorations through alliexpress.

    Good luck!

I'm getting mine through Whole Foods. The florist will assemble everything and they will even deliver! 5 bouquets, 1 flower girl crown, 6 corsages, 10 bouts, 12 centerpieces and extras for cake and aisle... rough estimate $1,000.

Just research ALOT!. I have 8 people on my side and 7 n my FH. We were able to get all bridal party flowers, an arch, and some "extras" for the path during the ceremony and I am under $750.00. Other places in Vegas quoted 1500+ but after hours and days of reaching out to vendors. I found a lady who works out of her home and is doing it for half price and has better reviews then most.

Mikey & Liz I thought it was extremely fair!

Also we're going to use the BM bouquets for some decor at the reception. Every wedding I've been in we've done this, so I think it's fine!

It really depends on how important flowers are to you. If you get in season and keep them to a minimum, it won't be too expensive. If you are dead set of out of season, expensive flowers, and have a massive bridal party...be prepared to spend some money...Research some bouquets using in season flowers for your wedding season. And talk to multiple florists. They may be able to take your wedding, but if they have 4 other weddings, the time spent on your stuff might not be as much. There is one florist in my town who will do only one wedding per weekend. And the other will take up to three.
