Floral arrangements and pricing

Anna, on August 22, 2016 at 9:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

My fiancé and I finally booked our venue and now we are on the hunt for the fun stuff like florists, photographers and dj. I have met with a couple of florists already and they have minimums; for example one told me the minimum was 6,000 but he could do it for 5,000. The venue provides centerpieces with 3 different sized glass cylinders that hold floating candles. I am planning on using those for half of the tables to cut costs and the quotes I have been getting are for 11 elevated centerpiece arrangements. (The ones that sit high). We are also getting 1 bridal bouquet, 1 toss bouquet, 6 bridesmaid bouquets, 10 boutonnieres, 4 corsages and 2 arrangements for the ceremony. Does 3,000 sound doable for our budget? How much did you pay for your floral arrangements and how many did you have? So far I'm hearing 5,000 as being more reasonable for what we want but my mother-in-law offered to pay and she wants to keep the cost around 3,000.

I don't think $3,000 will begin to cover what you want.

Cost is regional, depends on flowers and season. I'm not sure 3k is enough for all you're wanting but again, we don't know what type of flowers or how extravagant your flowers are

That sounds awfully high, especially since there so many inexpensive DIY options, including bulk flowers. Honeylife has a pretty good idea of where and what.

I literally had everything you had except for the elevated centerpieces (we did flowers on cake instead and extra corsages) and my total tab was under $1,000 and that was with set up and takedown of centerpieces, delivery, etc. Depends on region and flowers being in season too though I think

That's almost exactly what I'm getting. But 5 BM bouquets instead of 6. I'm pay $1250. So I'm thinking things vary by where you're located. I'm in MI.

I'm getting a lot more than that for $2500 at most. I'm located in Upstate NY if that helps.

Do smaller low table arrangements for half of your tables...those cost less than the high center pieces.

I'm paying $375 for 28 centerpieces (mostly roses and baby's breath), one large bridal bouquet, and a mini bouquet for my sister. We didn't want corsages or boutonnières. By this, I'm saying consider your flower choices! I chose roses and baby's breath which are very budget friendly, but also look very elegant (and can come in a multitude of colors). Also consider the sizes of your centerpieces; if they're large, they will cost more.

I think you should break down what you want - and reasonable prices for those items. I met with 2 florists and for my area, the bridal bouquet options were $150 and $175. My MOH bouquet was $75 or $85.

High centerpieces tend to have a higher price than low in most cases, so that may increase your price. By breaking down what you need and what you want, when you go into the florist appointment you can see exactly where your money would go and what you could/might be able to cut/change to make it the best bang for your buck.

Ok I was thinking New York would be similar in pricing to where I am in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. Thank you for your input everyone. I'm still searching. I don't want my arrangements to be really big and I'm using the centerpiece that my venue already provides for half of my tables. Maybe I should get quotes for 6 high arrangements and 5 low instead of 11 high. If I really wanted to cut I would do all low but the room needs at least some high arrangements.

The best way to find out if your budget is realistic is to start making appointments and getting real quotes. The two florists I met with were SO different, I expected a big price difference. One was one lady who worked in kind of a cluttered area, was distracted the whole appointment, and I thought was "reasonably" priced.

The next appointment I went to was a big floral firm in the area, and everyone says "they're the best, but really expensive" - well, turns out they're not much more than the lady who I couldn't get to sit down for a second to talk during our appointment. And, we're getting much more for our money with this firm.

Go in with what you would "like" to spend, and what you would "like" to get for that... listen to what they have to say about flower choices, and saving here/spending there for the best look. Then decide what you can cut from your "want" list if the budget doesn't fit what you are looking for.

You've got time to figure out what will be perfect for your special day.

I'm getting most of that for my 3K budget, but it also depends on where you live and what flowers you are asking for in the arrangements. If you want more expensive or not "in season" flowers, the price will go up. My most expensive thing I am ordering are red calla lilies. They are expensive to dye red, and I have to order a minimum of them. Ask your florist what the cheapest in season flowers are that you could use would be, or go with something simple like spray roses. Lastly, maybe alternate your elevated centerpieces to every other table. That will also save costs, but still give you the dramatic effect you are wanting.

I spent $5500 in chicago 1 bridal bouquet, 7 BMs bouquets, 8 coursages, 12 bouts, 10 very tall centerpieces, 10 medium, and 10 floating candles with flowers in vases, 1 very tall centerpiece for the place cards, aisle runner and decor, petals, tax, delivery but they did not charge reception setup with saved me $1k. I had seasonal flowers and greenery in the tall centerpieces which also helped keep the cost down.

I am not requesting any specific flowers for the quotes I am getting. Just whatever is in-season and fits my color theme. The last florist I met with said that hydrangeas are cost-effective so I asked her to do mostly those in the tall arrangements with little accents of my colors. Even though she said they were "cost-effective" I was quoted at over 5,500. I think the expensiveness can be chalked up to region. I live in one of the most expensive states in the U.S.A to have a wedding and to live in general. I will try asking for more greenery and doing some low and some tall centerpieces.

I live in an area that is expensive for florals. I am a wedding photographer and I have worked with so many vendors. What I did for my wedding was look at the smallest towns 50-100 miles away from my big city. I got a quote in New Orleans for $9,500 ( of course I wanted all very special flowers- peonies, dahlias, eucalyptus, ranunculus etc) I then got a quote from a small outside city florist for $4,200 !!! I paid their 2 hour travel fee and saved a butt load of money Smiley smile I found great florist by #hashtagging on Instagram Example: #LouisianaFlorist #"nameofsmallcity"florist

Also ask your other vendors who they suggest, photographers, calligraphers, caterers usually work with people all the time. Get MULTIPLE quotes~ Doesn't hurt to ask. Goodluck
