Flip Flops / Ballet Flats for Guests at Reception

Debbie, on May 9, 2022 at 4:58 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 22
Thinking about providing these to guests who want to take their heels of and dance during our reception. Is this expected at receptions these days? Would guests even care? Will you be providing these? Thanks for sharing!

I went to a wedding that had them. People enjoyed it, but I'm not doing it for my own because the flip-flops are like $6 each. For a big wedding, that adds up. It's sort of like having those medicine baskets in the ladies' room -- nice for some guests, but you can skip it if you would rather spend the money on other things. There's nothing wrong with dancing barefoot.

A quick search of the forum in the top right of the page has several posts on this topic and people either love them or hate them with no middle ground.

We aren’t doing them because they are very difficult to dance in. Similar to walking, the shoe goes one way and your foot goes another. Most ladies we know bring a pair of danceable heels with them so it isn’t an expense we are able to justify.

Ehh, I would personally pass. Guest are aware that heels make their feet hurt and it would be wise for them to bring their own. I wouldn’t buy them as it’s an extra expense.

I love dancing at weddings, and I usually just wear shoes I know I'll be able to dance in. I think providing shoes is a nice gesture, but most people will wear whatever footwear they want for the level of activity they anticipate.

We’re doing flip flops! It was a nice extra that we were able to afford. We got a bulk pack off Amazon so it was pretty cheap. I’ve been to weddings before that had them and they were a big hit with my crowd!

Personally not doing it because I think it should be the guests’ responsibility to ensure their comfort for the day and not come out of my pocket 😬🫣🤷🏻‍♀️

This one can run hot or cold in terms of popularity. My personal take is if you're basically buying plastic for people to use once, more goes in the landfill. Most people know to bring or wear dance-appropriate shoes.

I would not do this. Most women I know either prefer their heels or will bring their own change of shoes if they want them. Seems like a waste of money to me

I did flip flops - but more so in case people did not prepare that my wedding will be in the backyard on grass - plus I love flip flops so if we have extra they will be used! I only had to order 30 pairs as well - if it was a larger crowd I would not have gotten these.

Agreed! But the I also think abt the small stuff that will make for a great guest experience. Striking a balance between the two can be tricky!

Yes a smaller guest count does make it an easier expense to justify for sure!

Such a considerate idea but I am passing on this one. My invitation specifically advised guest that this was a dance friendly event so wear comfy shoes.

Yes 👍🏽. I was concerned because of the venue which is my parents home and we don’t want the liability of women dancing Louboutins and breaking an ankle while trying to electric slide or something 😂. I almost wrote leave your Christian Al’s and Jimmy Choos at home. Dance at your own risk. 😂

I'm not bothering with this. Most weddings I've seen people are happy to try and dance in heels, or take them off and dance barefoot.
