Flight is booked, but want to change name before honeymoon

Kathryn, on June 23, 2016 at 7:08 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 28

I'm kinda antsy to change my name. My flight for honeymoon is booked in my maiden name, but I want to change my name before the flight for the honeymoon. Do you think I'm safe to change my name as long as I keep one form of id in my current name? My thought was to keep my passport and don't change it till after the honeymoon or when I go the dmv conveniently lose my license so I have 2 licenses - one with new and one with old. Do you think that would work? Has anyone done this? I know I can be patient and wait till after the honeymoon, but I'm ready to use my new name.

When are you leaving for your honeymoon?? You probably won't have time If you're leaving right after the wedding or within a couple days of it.

I'm super excited too but I'm gonna have to book honeymoon in my maiden name and not get everything officially changed till we get back!

ETA: you can still go by Mrs. Whatever on the honeymoon, no ones gonna know the difference, it'll just be your documentation that will say maiden name

How soon after the wedding is your honeymoon? Honestly, I would wait. You can't change it immediately. You need to get a copy of the marriage certificate and that's only filed when your officiant sends it in and it filed with your county. Then you can start changing things but then you have to wait to get your new social security card in the mail and your drivers license. I would wait to be safe and just enjoy your honeymoon with your new husband.

Just wait. If you have a second piece of ID with your maiden name, its not going to help you out as that is legally not your name. "conveniently" losing your license doesn't sound like a good plan. Keep it legal so you know for sure you aren't going to get denied boarding for your honeymoon.

I changed mines prior to the honeymoon because I was exhausting all of my vacation time on the honeymoon. I did have to wait until I had the signed copy in hand and I was able to hand deliver my license so it was recorded the same day. As long as your passport says your maiden name, you're fine. I just got on a flight last week that a friend accidentally booked in my maiden name (she works for the airline) and my passport got me through security.

Honestly I would just be patient. Your ticket must match your passport and even if you had your marriage license back before you leave for your honeymoon it's possible you won't have the passport in your new name yet. The people at the hotel will call you Mrs. New Last Name, but it's not like anyone on the air plane is going to be referring to you by name. Luckily my marriage license came back a week and a half after our wedding, but our officiant said because we got married during wedding season, it was likely it would take up to 8 weeks to get back in our hands.

If you're that set on it, and it's that's far out, can you change your name in the flight?

I would still wait. You won't get your passport with your new name within that month unless you pay extra to expedite. It's one more month. You'll survive.

I'll just wait to have it changed. To many risks involved. Don't you have to change your passport also?

Don't really need to change passport right away - not going out of country

Can't you call the airline and ask them to change the name on the flight? I'm guessing you'd have to provide a copy of the marriage license, but it shouldn't be too tough for them to do that!?

I think there's way too much that could go wrong, personally I'd just wait until after. It would really suck if something got snagged and messed up plans!

I get that you're antsy, but honestly what's the rush? Just get married, enjoy your honeymoon, and deal with all the paperwork afterwards? I don't see the point in rushing it just for a boarding pass?

Be patient. It's not worth having issues at the airport for your honeymoon.

My boss told me about when her daughter went on her HM. There was a bride who's id's didn't match exactly and they weren't going to let her in the plane. I think she ended up paying a name change fee and was able to go, but it was full on tears meltdown at that point.

I'd wait. We just got back from our honeymoon and I finally changed mine today. It would be a lot of stress and rushing, especially if you're leaving shortly after. Plus you wouldn't want there to be a problem if your name is your maiden on one thing and your married name on another

A month I would wait. It'll take longer than that to get everything officially changed over. And it would suck for something to go wrong to where you can't go on your honeymoon.
