Flats in a trumpet gown?!

Shanice, on July 24, 2014 at 2:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

So I picked out a gown that I fell in love with!! It fits me perfectly which was GREAT because I was dreading having to pay for alterations. When I was trying on dresses, I had on 2 1/2 in. heels which I wore because my fiance and I are the same height. I don't like towering over him any day, but especially not our wedding day, and I'm leery of wearing heels all together because even if I wore small heels, I'd still be taller than him. Plus, our wedding is outdoors so I figured it would be easier and more comfortable to wear flats. So my question is, do you all think I'd be able to get away with wearing flats in my gown without having to get it hemmed? I'm wearing a slip under the dress as well, to help it keep shape.

    You'd be fine wearing flats

Flats are fine, but you'd really have to try it on with the dress to see if you need alterations or not. We can't tell from the photo where your dress hits the floor and whether you might trip on the front hem when walking.

If you wore 2 and 1/2 inch heels and the dress fit perfectly, then you'd probably have about 2 and 1/2 inches of extra length in flats. I think that's long enough to cause issues, and you might need it hemmed at that point, but you'd really have to try the dress on to know for sure.

This is the same situation I was in. I bought flats because FH is like 2 inches taller than me. I'm a heel girl at heart! But I dont want to be taller than him on our wedding day. Flats should go good girl. My dress is empire style so it's pretty similar to yours at the bottom.

I think it's fine to wear flats but you will need to hem the dress. You have a simple bottom though so the hemming shouldn't be too expensive. Try taking it to a non-bridal tailor for the hemming. It will likely be cheaper.

I think flats will be fine! I'm wearing flats on my day for many of the same reasons - i'll be walking on grass and I dont want to be the same height as FH.

Flats will be fine, but you'll probably have to get your dress hemmed.

As everybody has already said, most likely you need to get the dressed hemmed. It is not very expensive though. My store charged $75.

    We're dress twins!

I'm 5'7 and, even with 2 3/4 inch. heels on, it was dragging on the ground a bit. I wasn't prepared for alterations because the dress in the store that I tried on actually seemed shorter than the one I got.

I think you will most likely have to have it hemmed, but try the dress on with the shoes you want to wear to be sure.
