Fitting in a size 10 Sample size :(

Tara, on September 24, 2019 at 8:27 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
This is (by picture) My Dream dress. The last 2 months I have been eating perfect and working out hard and lost 25lbs. I’m still shy a few inches of the sample size 10 which is what the carry. Anyone else have issues with the samples size bring to small! I have been to 4 other shops and it’s so uncomfortable. I carry allot of weight in my bust area! We’re you able to find your dream dress even if it didn’t fit??? Maybe my imagination is skewed. I go Saturday and I have to order it that day because wedding is in March.

Congratulations on your weight loss! Another thing to consider is that regardless of how much weight you lose, your body type might not allow you to fit into a certain size. I tried on a dress that fit me everywhere but my chest and it was partially because I have a large bust but also because of my ribcage. Do they only carry the dress in a size 10 outside of the samples? If it doesn't fit, most bridal shops won't let you order a size smaller than you are when you order. I would play it safe and get the size you are now, it's much easier to take a dress in than to let one out.

I’d try it on anyway, they should be able to clip you in and you’ll get a feel for the dress. I know that it’s not ideal, but it’s better than struggling to fit into a dress you may not even like.

I was busting out of the back of my dress and I still loved it! My stylist was very good about placing fabric so I would understand the look, etc.

I’m same as you, except also carry a few inches extra in the waist but smaller hips! Only a size 10 which I’m just hoping I can picture it and love it. I plan on dropping another 25lbs before ceremony! So I’m good with ordering my current size better then it being to small.

Yes exactly how I felt at the first places I went to. It was discouraging. But the dress pictured above is the dress I have been holding out for and just don’t think I could’ve settled for anything until I tried this dress on which I’m sure changed my attitude but in this picture I was also busting out of the back I got it zipped mostly but couldn’t breathe LOL

I feel like sample sizes run so small. My bridesmaids got so upset when they went shopping because they tried on the samples (size 8) and some were too small. The size 8 fit my sister perfectly, but she's the same size as me (size 0)

I really dont understand how it works, but I would just focus on how you look rather than what number is on the dress

Erica I agree. I think when it’s the dress I will know too small or too big! And I believe a good stylist makes all the difference in the world. They help you to see pass the flaws and what it will look like when it fits you perfect

I wouldn’t suggest trying to change your body for a sample. MOST people don’t fit in samples!! They’re really to give you an *idea* of what the dress will look like once it’s fitted to you. A good consultant should help clip it in a way that it does that. The dress I chose, the sample was gaping open in the back as it was much too small to zip shut on me. But a little creative clipping and I could see the vision. Then they measured me and ordered it in my right size and it came in fitting and was all I ever dreamed of and more.

I agree 100% I’m losing weight for me and needed to be done lol. Just happens to be my main motivation is my wedding. But I agree I have heard amazing things about this bridal boutique and the owner/stylist will help you see the vision. I love the dress in the picture but I also expect it’s possible just won’t fit me like I want fingers crossed

There’s always alterations and a good seamstress can make dreams come true!

Anyway this photo is a nice example of how try-ons went — my stylist took the pic and to show the back but it shows the “magic” of the clips haha. This was my runner up dress, but a better example. Looks totally normal from the front, and then you see from the back that this dress is at least 2 sizes too small for me and artfully shaped to show the illusion of fitting — it’s actually clipped to my bra 🤣

You are a BOMBSHELL in the dress you posted with you in it!! Are you buying off the rack? Typically bridal shops should be able to order you what size you need (unless you are trying to very specifically fit a 10).

With your current weightloss (YOU GO GIRL!) & your determination I think you would have no problem fitting a 10 perfectly. How tight is it on your bust though? Keep in mind you might not lose that many inches around the bust. BUT am amazing seamstress should be able to buy you 1-2 inches in the bust & sides if you need some more wiggle room - breathing is important! Lol. Also make sure you do the sit test, you want to be able to comfortably sit (:

For reference ladies wedding dress sizes is a whole new ballpark and can run 1-2 sizes smaller then your normal street size! i.e. if you are a 6 in jeans you might be a 8 or 10 in a wedding dress

Lol Thank you Jordana you are the sweetest! I am not buying off the shelf unless of course the deal is right and it fits lol! Honestly I don’t even care about the size just looking amazing in it. My wedding is actually a 20 year Vow renewal and after 20 years I still want to see that look on his face... our first wedding was not a good experience at all so we are doing it all over again and much better. It was just very uncomfortable trying to squeeze into a size 10, I felt like a stuffed sausage and it was hard seeing what it would look like when you can hardly breath lol. I have lost close to 7lbs since the last dress shopping experience so maybe it will be better! The dress I want I think 🤔 is supposedly very forgiving Per the stylist. So fingers crossed it’s everything I hope it is and I get this done and over with!

The sizes really make no sense! I didn't let the associate helping me tell me any of the sizes I was trying on because I knew bridal sizes were wonky. I purchased the actual dress I tried on and didn't know the size of it till I was showing it to my mom and it was on the price tag lol

The sizing is definitely discouraging. lol I'm a 2-4 in normal clothes and fit into the sample 6's (for the most part) but when they measured me, I was fit for an 8 in my bust and hips, but a half inch over in my waist. SO I ordered a 10.

I see you already bought your dress (you look fantastic in it from that one photo by the way).

I'm usually a street size 6 US so was a sample size 8 or 10 at the boutique I went to, and there wasn't a single sample I tried that was too small, but I live in a more rural area and people tend to be more "average" so they had plenty of larger sample sizes and plus sample sizes at the bridal boutique. I ended up buying a dress off StillWhite that is a 12 and after unintentionally losing 5 lbs it fits me wonderfully without any alterations (now just to stay the right size until my wedding at the end of May). Definitely don't get focused on the designer sizing and just buy whatever fits you now and the seamstress recommends. They are professionals and know what they can and can't do with a dress and how different designer styles run size wise, and they've also dealt with hundreds of brides who lose weight before their wedding (or think they will lose weight before their wedding) and are familiar with the ways in which that weight comes off and changes proportions, etc. I bet you will look absolutely stunning on your wedding day!
