First wedding dress appointments

Chelsea, on June 3, 2020 at 8:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 20
First time looking at dresses in the middle of June. How many bridal shops did you go to till you found the one? Did you have multiple appointments in the same week? I made one for a Monday and another for Saturday is the same week. Is that okay?

I'm doing 3 or 4 in one week because my parents will be in town and want to be a part of it. I think it'll be fine, as long as I don't get tired of getting into new dresses, lol.

I definitely recommend looking at multiple shops! I went to 4 different stores over the course of a week. I ended up buying my dress from the first store I went to, but by looking at the other three stores after the first one, it helped me to feel like I looked at enough options to know that the dress I picked really was the one I wanted. Also, by spreading it out over a week, I didn't feel like I was making an impulse decision. I think it's great that you're planning to go to different stores on different days! Congratulations to you, enjoy dress shopping!!

I looked at 4 places. Honestly, I found dress trying on very exhausting lol. It’s hard work getting those dresses on and off. I only did one appointment, then a few days later the next one. Took me about 2 months to find the perfect dress. I think a couple day break between shops is totally ok. Even a couple weeks, like I did between 3 and 4.

There is a bridal district near me so I made 3 appointments in one day. Just looked around at the third one and didn’t try anything on since I knew I wanted a dress at shop 2!

It really depends on what you feel is right, for me, I just ordered dresses to try-on from Azazie amd amd Cocomelody, 5 of them to be exact, only to help me choose the style. By the third dress, I was able to know that this was my dress, not in an array of tears, but when it just feels right and when your whole entourage says it just screams you.

Basically, trying on wedding dresses is like playing dress-up, and out of all the dresses you try-on there has to be that ONE dress that makes everything feel right.

I made appointments at four stores for the same day because I had family that had flown in to come dress shopping with me, however I ended up falling in love with the very first dress I tried on and cancelled the other three appointments because I knew nothing else would be able to top it. But it was less pressure knowing I would have had other options if I didn't love anything at some of the stores, and the appointments were on the same day so I would have still had a fresh picture in my mind of all of the dresses I tried on.

I went to 1 store, it was more to look. I was planning on going to a different store, but you needed an appointment for that one. The 1 store I went to was no appointment needed. I ended up falling in love with my dress; I knew nothing could top it. I didn't want to take it off. It was a gut feeling. That being said, I do wish I would have made that other appointment because there was 1 style of dress my store didn't have in my size or anything close to what I could fit into that I really wanted to try.

I think that's fine! I had four appointments scheduled in one day. We only ended up going to two of them because I found my dress at the second place.

I only went to one store. And it was honestly just because I won a gift card at a bridal show. So I go and the first dress I tried on is the one I ended up choosing. I am definitely not someone who wants to go to multiple places and once I pick something I stick with it. Come to think of it, I've chosen all of my vendors and even my venue that way.

I went to one store, saw a dress in the window, and walked out with it! I think it's fine to have multiple appointments in the same week. Nothing wrong with options!

I think that best thing for dress shopping is knowing what kind of bride you want to be - have descriptions or descriptive words (not just lace and poofy - lol!). But, "I want to be an elegant bride" or "I want the most romantic thing I can find" or "I'm a sophisticated bride" ... or.... you get the idea. But if you don't know what vibe you want when it's all put together things get hard fast - and dress regret is real. So really think about who you are and what you want to project - along with lace, flare, satin, sleeves, etc. It's how they know which lace dress or which satin gown to bring you.

    * Many of us are a combination. I love vintage and MCM (midcentury modern) and romance - but my friends tell me that I look dressed up in a t-shirt dress. I asked my FH about that and he said that others would call that sophisticated. I don't see myself that way - but knowing how to describe my style to others has really helped a lot!
    Have fun!

I went to two on a Friday and had three scheduled for the following Wednesday after I did not find “the one” on our Friday trip. I found my dress after three appointments. Personally, I was exhausted after two in one day, but I’m glad I scheduled them so closely together so I didn’t have a ton of time to be anxious about finding THE dress!

The first one gave me an idea of what I did/didn’t like, the second one helped me narrow it down even further and I had a clear idea of what I wanted by the third.
I also HIGHLY recommend shopping before you go - every bridal shop, especially the one’s that are not a chain, have a different vibe and carry different designers. I scheduled an appointment for a shop, they wanted to do a virtual meeting ahead of time to have an idea what I wanted, I shopped through all 12 pages of their dresses and only found one I could really picture myself in - I didn’t end up visiting that shop. It’s definitely some work to figure out where you do/don’t want to shop, but it’ll save you time in the end!

My friends and I went to a Kleinfeld pop up sample sale on a lark... and walked away with my dress 2 hours later. I'd been engaged a week.

There's no "right" number of dresses or shops, there's just listening to yourself and finding what you want, however long that takes.

I had 2 on a Sunday and 1 on a Monday and went with one from the first store personally! But it’s good to go to multiple to really know which you love best!

I went dressing shopping in 2 different states. In California I tried several dress shops while I was there for Christmas with my family & bridesmaids, but didn't make a decision while I was there. Had an idea of what I wanted and when I went to the final dress shop in Colorado I was able to decide :-)

If you can't find something that suits you in bridal, try bridesmaid in white or ivory. I went to 4 stores before I finally tried it and it worked!

Be sure to STOP LOOKING once you find your dress. There will always be beautiful gowns each season, so make sure it's exactly what you wantSmiley smile It helps to go in knowing what will be most flattering to your figure as well, that can save you some time and discouragement.
