First Meeting with Wedding Planner: Any Advice?

Mrs. Grissett-Johnson, on February 22, 2013 at 3:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 1

Good day ladies! Wanted to ask for your help with preparing for my 1st meeting with my wedding planner / Aunt. Some of you that follow my posts may remember one of my more recent ones where I expressed some concerns over using my aunt as my wedding planner.

Well, I'm glad to say that my aunt has since apologized for over-stepping by predesignating the flower girls w/o my knowledge among a few other things. Now that things are back on track we decided to start fresh by meeting at our potential venue this Saturday; FH will be there. After viewing the property we will hash out some of the details over lunch and even look at a few dresses.

Since my aunt lives out of town our meetings will be few and far between so I want to make sure we're as productive as possible. Would you all have any tips as to what I need to prepare for our meeting? Although our wedding is still 14 months out are there certain things that should already be decided on? Looking forward to your comments!

Wait, your wedding planner is your aunt? This could get tricky as family members tend to feel as though they have more say on your special day than you do (not always the case of course). A wedding planner is there to make YOUR dream come true on a budget that you can afford or have set for yourself (if you have one). I would at least make sure that you make it known that it's YOUR DAY :-)

My suggestion is go go in and HAVE FUN! Don't be afraid to tell her what you do and don't like, if there is something specific you want to make sure is included or excluded, and if you have a Theme idea you like, let her know so she can talk it through with you. Since your wedding is 14 months away, no, there isn't anything you should have already set in stone yet. Take the time to review all sorts of ideas you like and see where it goes :-) Good luck. Most importantly...go in and have fun!
