First look with my mom?!

J, on November 21, 2019 at 11:16 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13
So tell me what you think of this idea. Long story short, my mom raised me as a single mother and is walking me down the aisle. I’ll be dress shopping soon and my mom is less enthusiastic about helping me find a dress, while my aunt loves fashion and is really excited for dress shopping (and partially paying for it!). I was thinking, if I have my aunt and some bridesmaids shop with me and I leave my mom out of dress shopping, I may be able to pull off a “first look” with my mom on the wedding day!Have any of you ever done this? Logistically, would it even make sense? Would love your thoughts on this!

I would ask your mom about this idea just to be sure. She might not be super excited about dress shopping, but she may also feel hurt or left out if she isn't invited. If you explain your plan to her, I'm sure she'd be on board! I'm doing a first look with my dad Smiley smile

I think it's a great idea, but I would definitely inform her about the idea so there wont be any unnecessary hurt feelings. But I think it's a win win for all involved.

I think this is such a sweet idea!!! As everyone has mentioned, run it past her. Also, consider what getting ready pictures you may miss out on if you go this route. I know many women have pictures with their mom helping them put on their dress. Again, I adore this idea but want to help give you the big picture before making this decision!!!

Hey J! As the PPs mentioned, I would definitely reccomend you speak with your Mom about this and make sure she is ok not being a part of dress shopping. If she's onboard, I think could be a really sweet idea Smiley heart

Personally I would rather my mom be there for my dress shopping than to do a first look with her. My mom was the one who helped me into my dress which was special in itself.

I personally loved having my mom help me pick out a dress. Ask her first what she wants before deciding.

I agree with PPs, ask mom what she thinks about this, make sure she knows she is welcome to dress shop if she wants to!

I think you could still pull it off so long as she's ok with it and doesn't mind being away from the getting ready part. But I'm close to my mom in the same way, and i think it's a really sweet idea. Especially since she clearly means so much to you.

I'd ask your mom what she preferred. She may want to get ready with you & help you into your dress?

This is what I was thinking, too. She might want to be there to help OP get ready. But barring that, it sounds like a super cute idea!
