First look regrets?

Trevor, on September 29, 2017 at 6:18 PM

So FH and I are having a lot of discussions about whether or not to do a first look. I love the idea of him seeing me for the first time as I walk down the aisle, but we are also a very private couple so like the idea of sharing this moment alone. Has anyone ever done/not done it and regretted it?...

Has anyone ever done/not done it and regretted it? Plus any general advice will be appreciated!

We're doing one and I can't wait. We get pics with our dog and we get to hang with our guests asap after the ceremony.

And we'll be going down the aisle together...so we'd see each other first anyway.

We did a first look and loved it. I am so glad we did it. It was really special to get to have the time to really enjoy that moment when we saw each other and not have to rush through it and keep moving through a ceremony. We really got to enjoy it and even talk for a while away from everyone, all while being photographed. We got amazing pictures, as well as got all the WP pictures and family pictures out of the way, and then had down time with each other, both sides of the WP, and our immediate families before the ceremony began. Plus, I don't feel like it took away from walking down the aisle towards DH. That was still an exciting experience and we still have an awesome picture of the look on DH's face when I walked down the aisle. I wouldn't do it any differently if we had it to do over again.

We are doing a first look. I've yet to read anyone on here or anywhere else for that matter, who said they regret their first look. Our ceremony starts just at dark and we want to do sunset on the lake pictures so it makes much more sense for us to do a first look. I'm mostly looking forward to having those few moments of just us, and the calm before the chaos. I really want that time with just the two of us.

My FH and I are doing a First Look. We've been to weddings that have had a first look and some that didn't and we just find that with doing the first look, we will be able to enjoy a majority of the cocktail hour with our guests, prior to the reception. We will still get the reaction of seeing one another for the first time, just one on one. Plus, I believe it's still going to be emotional walking towards him down the aisle.

We did first look and we were still emotional when I walked down the aisle. Don't regret it at all and I'm glad we did it. We got most of our photos done and we're able to join cocktail hour.

We did a first look and still didn't get to enjoy our cocktail hour bc our photographer was hella slow. However, We loved that moment. He said he still got emotional when he saw me walking down the aisle. He even said it was still more emotional than the first reveal

We recently attended a wedding where they did a first look in front of the bridal party, and it wasn't that fantastic. It not being a private moment made it less special, and their reactions weren't the greatest either.

We did one and it was great! Didn't take away from walking down the aisle at all.

You would 1000% regret NOT doing one. Everyone who has posted here that they didn't do one, to be honest, their pictures aren't as nice.

Thank you everyone so much - this is really helping us! We have a long time to go yet so can give this some thought. Our wedding will be approx. 6 months after we have a courthouse wedding, with just the two of us, so maybe once we've done that we'll be more informed about what we want to do on our *actual* wedding.

Be careful of that "actual wedding" wording. Lots of folks on here joyfully choose a courthouse wedding, and it's offensive to imply that's not your real wedding.

Also -- we're doing a first look and I can't wait!! It's actually the first wedding-related thing FH got really excited about

The wording is so tricky! We have joyfully chosen our courthouse wedding, we just happen to be having another one, too! It's what worked best for both of us!

I used the stars because I literally didn't know what word to use and was just trying to help other people understand which event I was referring to! Any tips on better wording for the future?

I didn't do a first look. I wanted the first time he saw me in my dress be at the alter.

I don’t regret it. If it means more time to enjoy your wedding and spend time with your guests then it’s a no brainer really.

The wedding is small so the WP is 10 out of 45-55 people so we're not as worried about spending the extra time with people. Definitely want as much time to enjoy the wedding though!

We decided to do the first look so we could have a moment where it's just us two and to get a few pictures out of the way so we could enjoy our guest.
