First look before a catholic ceremony... Do I have enough time?

Alicia, on October 20, 2015 at 9:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

My ceremony starts at two pm. I am getting married in a church and my reception is at a golf course. I'm wondering if I have enough time to do a first look, or is that wayyy to early.

    My ceremony starts at 12:30 and we plan on doing a first look. We haven't worked out the timeline yet, but I know we will be up early. I think a big part is how big your bridal party is and how many are getting professional hair/makeup. Not sure if it being a Catholic ceremony will really impact things.

    Depends on a couple of things: 1. how many people are in your BP/how many are getting ready together versus how many hair stylists, MUAs etc. If you have more than 6 people getting ready, this might cut it close. Even thought they aren't a part of the first look, I am guessing you will get to the church with them and do the first look on the premises?. Also, 2. How far the church is from where you are getting ready. So, sorry I don't have a great answer, but those were the first things that came to mind!

    Thanks @ RJmargo, just knowing that someone else is doing an earlier first look makes me feel better.

    I am getting married at a catholic church at 3pm. We are not doing a first look bcause my fiance does not want to see me until i am coming down the isle and because it does cut down at least an hour in prep time before the wedding. I think you would have enough time if you allow yourself that time! Keep in mind though that at least at my church we cant take photos on campus until the wedding begins. We are, however, allowed 1 hr after the ceremony for photos and can use the outside of the church as long as we walk. 2pm is fairly early for a wedding to begin with and you may be rushed in the morning getting ready!

    @Holly honestly thank you those are some of the questions I need to ask myself!

    @MrsForte I agree. I just want to get to the party as soon as possible.

    PS My photographer has been great helping me think realistically about timing, since he has a lot of experience. So that might be a good person to ask, especially if they have experience with it.

    @Holly...thats a great point! My photographer recommended doing the photos later because it would allow for more intimate time! The time we are taking photos will be during cocktail hour. We asked her specifically how much time she would need and she said about 1 1/2 hours based off our party size so we wont miss out on the party at all! Yours is mid summer so I know the sun sets later but for us the light would be better after the ceremony for pictures

    Yes. If your ceremony starts at 2:00, you need to start your first look (assuming it is nearby) at 1:00, if it's just going to be you two. You can always do your bridal party later.

    My parents did a 2pm Catholic ceremony and my mom got her hair done at 6am in the morning in order to do the first look and bridal party pictures before the ceremony. So, it is possible. The reception was over by 8pm or so anyway since the ceremony was so early so those in the bridal party who were beat could turn in early.

    @Celia that's a good idea to do it with just us.

    @Nicole that's so early.

    I'm bugging my hair dresser right now.

    Ours is a Catholic ceremony, also starting at 2pm. We will be doing a first look and bridal party photos before, so this is how our tentative timeline is looking: BP(girls) meeting up at 7:30am at our reception location/venue where we will be getting ready, 2 hairstylists and 1 MUA (only 4 getting makeup done) are arriving at 7:45 to begin at 8am. My goal is to have all 4 BMs and MOB, MOG ready by 11:30, and I want to get my dress on by 11:45. Would like to start first look around 12/12:15 then proceed with photos for about 30-45 min and start heading to our church around 1pm. We want to arrive there by 1:20 the latest. It's nice that ceremony and reception location are only 4 miles away. So I think if you plan for it, it is definitely possible.
