First Dress Fitting

Red Queen, on February 21, 2018 at 9:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

So I went for my first dress fitting and I think I feel pretty good about it?

It fit pretty well off the rack so I was picturing that not much needed doing, but the seamstress says she can make it better for me. We're putting red crinoline under the layers so it'll peek out at the bottom (at least I get a little of my red!) and she suggested adding more crystals on the bodice to make it more sparkly. She also examined the layers on the train and said they weren't cut evenly (thanks, David's Bridal!) but she pinned them and will be fixing it so that the layers all flow evenly while I'm walking.

She also told me not to waste money on a longline bra, just to bring a regular push up bra and she'll sew it in.

The best part, I think, is that I asked her if she could make some sleeves. I have fat upper arms but I love a casual dress I have from Torrid that has spaghetti straps and then lace partial sleeves like this: this so she is going to put matching lace sleeves and the straps on my dress. I can't quite picture it but I figure that if I like the style on a casual dress and it makes me feel good that I'll probably feel way better in my wedding dress.

I should have taken more pics today but I didn't ... here is the pic of me in the sample (I ordered ivory and not blush).

You're going to look amazing! I think adding the sleeves is smart. I just read an article where photographers were saying brides with strapless dresses spend half the night pulling them up so it's hard to get good shots.

Thank you! I was originally supposed to wear a red dress but I got scammed by a third party seller on Amazon. With Alfred Angelo out of business, my only options for a reputable designer were in the usual colours- no red.

I've been feeling really ambivalent about my attire over the past few months as a result.

Thank you. I really appreciate the kind words. I've really been out of sorts about my dress and I'm just worried it won't look good.

I've never really worn strapless so yeah, I'm more comfortable in some kind of sleeve but I want to make sure it works with the dress. The seamstress promised me she wouldn't do anything if she thought it wouldn't look good- she vetoed my hoop skirt and told me that red crystals wouldn't suit the dress but she could add more clear ones... so I guess I trust her?

Just anxiety. Yay mental health issues!

So glad you found a dress you love. The red peeking out will be a great touch. I remember your original dress post/issue. If your dress is properly altered it won’t fall down, even if it’s strapless. I had never worn a strapless dress until my wedding. I was considering adding straps and decided I didn’t like the look. Didn’t have an issue at all the night of my wedding.

I love those sleeves! And a spash of color will be awesome. But, my dress is pink so of course I'm all for colors!
I'd trust her your seamstress. Sounds like she knows what she's doing!

Your dress is Smiley love I love every aspect of it. The largest part of my body is my upper arms so I feel your pain. I think it looks absolutely stunning the way it is on you, but I understand the want for some sheer sleeves, based off my own personal preference. I can't wait to see your BAM or the finished product once you pick it up!

It looks beautiful on you! I would suggest, though, seeing if she can just add cups to the dress instead of you having to buy a whole pushup bra. It's probably cheaper and then you won't have to see any lines from the band of the bra.

I have push up bras already, and she says that it will be removable after the wedding so it won't cost me a dime extra. It will give better lift than sewing cups in.

    Thanks though!
