First dress fitting! Who comes with me?

Misty, on January 2, 2015 at 12:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Hi all! I go for my first dress fitting in about 2 weeks and I'm so anxious and excited and overcome with joy! I want some close friends to come with me to share in the moment of seeing it somewhat fit and share these emotions with me. Is that normal? I mean it is just a dress fitting. Do I ask people to come with me?

You can if you want too. They don't have too. My mom might come, but I'd be fine going by myself.

It's completely up to you! However, I just had this experience and I will share my feelings about it. I took only my mom and my sister to the first appointment with me. It made everything 10 times more emotional and overwhelming. Even if they were keeping their opinions to themselves, I was still worried about the looks on their faces, the presence/absence of gasps of joy, etc, etc. It was really overwhelming and exhausting. I ended up getting a dress that day, but I SO regretted it the next day. Thankfully, they let me come back and try dresses on alone and I ended up choosing one that I absolutely love and have zero regrets about.

That was just my experience, but it is something to think about. It's an exciting time and an important moment in wedding planning! However, choose wisely who you bring with you. For every person, that's another opinion.

    Happy dress shopping! Smiley smile

I have my first fitting next week and I will be going alone. The only people who have seen my dress are my mom and sister. They live too far away to come to the fitting. Although I do wish I had at least one person able to come with me.

You can bring who you want. I brought only my Sister (MOH) because she would be the one buttoning and bustling me in. Smiley smile

I want to bring my MOH. She's just as blunt and honest as I am and won't be afraid to give her opinion. Maybe my bustle idea blows and a different type of bustle would be better? Maybe the alterations lady is sketchy and I'm not picking up on it. She'll tell me and that's why she's my MOH lol.

I always second guess everything and I guess I just want a close friends opinion. This is a huge day (I've never been married) for me and I guess I need reassurrance.

I will either go alone or with my mom. I will however make sure my mom is at the last one so that she can see how the gown is to be bustled. My MOH lives out of town

Your MOH should come to learn the bustle if you have one.

For the first fitting, I don't plan on bringing anyone. It seems pointless to have them sitting around waiting while the seamstress is futzing with the dress. I will probably take one of my BMs with me for the final fitting to make sure that I'm not missing anything, and to learn about tying the corset.

You can invite whoever you are comfortable with. Are your friends in your BP? I will be inviting my Mother and any BM's they would like to come. My MOH will also be there to learn how to help me get in the dress lol.

I think for my first fitting it was just my mom, MIL, and GMIL. Friends (MOH & BM) were too busy with school and work.

When the time comes for me I think I'll invite my mom (2 hrs away) and my 1 friend (BM) who went with me dress shopping. I also would like her input on jewelry and veil and to take a pic to show my MOH (lives OOT). I totally understand your feelings Misty, and having someone with you should be relieve some of your nerves about it.

I've asked the MOH (who is my cousin which is like my sister) and 3 very close friends. We are also kinda making it a girls day as well. They are helping me pick out a veil. Part of the reason I'm wanting someone there as well is because I'm sure I'm going to be in wedding dress excitement mode and will need another set of eyes. I am not close with my mom (who is not coming to the wedding) so my besties are helping me with everything Smiley smile

It's up to you. for my first one, i brought my mother in law along. (my mom doesn't live here.) i went to my second one by myself as it was just getting it pinned. my next two appointments are both on saturdays and i'm gonne have my mother in law come to both of them so i can get her opinions and she can learn to do my bustle.

the only ones that really matter are the first, where you're talking about and deciding what alterations need to be done, and the final one where your bustle (if you have one) is done and someone can learn how to do it for you, and a final opinion. and the obvious, "OMG, MY DRESS! IS DONE! GAAAH!" yeah. lol.

I didn't do an official fitting when I picked up my dress. I went by myself since most of my BP and all of my family are out of town. The only one who lives here was on a cruise. I thought I would be sad going by myself, but they girls were really nice and fussing over me so it wasn't bad at all. For my real fitting, just my mom will be here. Smiley smile But again, it is totally up to you.
