First dress fitting tomorrow! What should I expect?

andrea, on June 23, 2017 at 9:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

What should I expect? Should I bring spanx like how I am wearing on my wedding day and my shoes as well? What happened on your first dress fitting? And how long after did you go back? Thanks!

Yes, bring your shoes and any undergarments you plan on wearing the day of. You need your shoes so they can determine the length/hemming properly. Same thing for anything that is going to suck you in and possibly make the dress need to be taken in!

    Have fun!

The first thing they want to know is what style your looking for to narrow down the selection for you. If you already have the shoes for your shoes and anything else you plan on wearing underneath your wedding gown! Don't get discouraged if you don't find the dress on the first day, it took me a couple stores before I found one that made me cry. It can get stressful but remember this is your day and it's all about what makes YOU happy, so remember to smile and have fun!

Yes bring the shoes that you are going to wear for your wedding. once my dress came in I went for my fist fitting then 3 months later I went back to make sure it was how I wanted it. She had to make a few more adjustments then then 2 weeks after that I went back after everything was to pick it up

Go in with $1,000 worth of alterations in mind, so that when you find out the actual amount you can be pleasantly surprised. LOL. Kidding.. but I went in thinking, ahh maybe $2-300 for mine.. Nope.. freakin $475 . Otherwise, be ready to stand for a while, while they pin your dress for your alterations. I was standing for an hour and 45 min!

Definitely bring the shoes, bra, spanx, I even went to my first fitting in wild colored undies to make sure if I decided to do a blue pair, it wouldn't show through. I also would bring the veil, a) the lady could steam it at the end, b) also gives you the full look with lengths/bustle etc. Also be prepared for the dress to be pushed and pulled a lot. They know what they're doing, but there were a couple times where my FMIL was making like OmG she's going to rip it faces. If you don't like what they suggest be vocal. And go in expecting to spend a small fortune and hope for the best! Enjoy it!!!

Yes I expect it to be a couple hundred. My dress is all beading and lace so I'm sure they have to remove some of that to alter it.

I brought EVERYTHING that i was going to wear for the wedding: shoes, belt, veil, jewelry, underclothes, everything. You want to be sure it's going to work on the big day, so this is kind of like a dress rehearsal (no pun intended).

Since I got my dress in NY, but I live in VA, I wanted to cut down on travel. I did my first fitting on a Friday morning, the second on Friday afternoon, and the final on Saturday morning. Each fitting only took about 30 minutes. You put on the dress with your shoes and they pin up the bodice so it's tight on you. They actually cut off a lot of the tulle on the bottom of the dress while I was still wearing it! Then the pinned the rest of the bottom. My two follow ups involved just making sure it fit right after the alterations. I also put everything on to make sure it looked good together which I'm glad I did. The necklace I got actually didn't look great, and the seamstress recommended long earrings instead of a necklace. We went and bought the earrings in between the fittings so I could try them on with the dress!
