We're doing "all of me" by John legend as that's our song. I don't love that it's one of those super popular songs, but oh well.

This dang first dance song will be the death of me! Fh is very opinionated about this and we have very different tastes! He wanted john legend all of me and I flat out said no. For MONTHS he tried hard to convince me it's perfect. Played it for every poor guest that came to our house, along with my top pick, to poll them. Everyone liked it more then anything I threw in the mix! Finally, I broke and said ok. If it means that much to you, we can use it. In that same moment of weakness, he brought up another song I vetoed no and says he wants it! Hahaha! Give him a damn inch... So, he wants the mega cheesey frozen ghost dream come true song now! lol Its very sweet, but, growing up, it was the first dance song at every wedding I went to! lol

Ours was Mean to Me by Brett Eldredge - the acoustic version.

FH and I haven't gotten to this point in our planning, but I'm going to suggest either:

Our first song will be “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel. Friends of ours (also in the wedding) will be performing a duet. He plays guitar and sings and she has a beautiful voice so we will be dancing to live music.

@moss wedding I know that but I still don't want to tell literally anyone! It's one thing FH and I want to keep between us.

@Rosemary I was considering "Can I Have This Dance" as well! My 14 year old daughter suggested we even do the waltz to go with it, but FH shot that idea down He doesn't dance, so getting him to even do a first dance was a big step. It looks like our song will be "Never Knew I Needed" by Neyo, from The Princess and the Frog as well @Cassidy

Mine was not a song that was ever played on the radio. That being said, you have a lot of time to consider this! Over a year!

We are doing Billy Joel, Just the Way you are. I lovvved I wont give up- jason mraz, and the michael buble song, hold on to me, but we both grew up billy joel fans, and are going to his concert right after our wedding, so we felt this would be more special for us.

OP, you still have a lot of time, so just listen to the radio and hopefully something will jump out at you. We didn't have any "special songs" before we got engaged, so I was having a hard time coming up with something for a while. We had a few we liked, but nothing we loved. Then "Mean to Me" came out, and the first time I heard it on the radio I fell in love with it. So sometimes you just have to not try so hard to find something perfect and wait for it to find you (as cheesy as that sounds).

I'm sure you'll find something that fits the two of you perfectly.

We chose "I wont give up" by Jason Mraz. FH sang to me the entire song and made it that much better

ETA: I just saw when your date is. If you pick a song that is on the radio, its almost a guarantee that you will be tired of it by your wedding. IF its not on the radio and you listen to it a lot then you will get tired of it. you have some time, it will come. If you're about 2 months out and you still haven't found one, then start looking.

We wanted to do Thinking Out Loud but then it was WAY over played. I walked down to the instrumental version. Our first dance was Heaven's Knife by Josh Garrels.

Strangers in the Night as covered by Cake is what we went with. We for sure won't be hearing it on the radio in 20 years but we will love hearing it in our house!

History in the Making by Darius Rucker. We met at a show he played and our first date was at his show....kind of special to us.

Makes me so sappy everytime I hear it.. So as to keep that effect and not grow tired of the song, FH and I have decided against playing it again until our wedding.

I love all of them, having soo many genres and songs to choose from it makes it so hard to choose one song. But I'd love to have a story to go with the song, (proposal song or something like that). Maybe I'm just overthinking it. Also so far we have chosen an Albanian/ English song that won Eurovision and I love the way it sounds but its never one I will hear on a radio channel back home. I just keep picturing driving down the road with my husband and our future kids one day and hearing our song on the radio.

I'm a hopeless romantic I guess, emphasis on the hopeless... loll

Going the R&B route, I want "Spend My Life" by Eric Benet and Tamia, but it doesn't have a special meaning for both of us... I was trying to find a good Sam Smith song that isn't on the radio and haven't had any luck. Michael Buble might be another option for us also...
