First dance song...too dark?

Yasmine, on July 9, 2019 at 3:45 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
So I've fallen in love with Morgan Wallen's cover of Cover Me Up.
However, it's a little dark, lyrics-wise. The song resonates with me because I was in a pretty rough place when I met FH. It makes me think of him and gives me chills, etc. He says no one will pay attention to the lyrics but since i always do I’m wondering if this is true.
Can i get opinions on this? Is the song too dark? Will anyone listen to the lyrics?

I love that song. I don't know your family and friends, but most of the time they aren't focused on what the lyrics are, just the melody and watching the bride and groom dance. If that's the song that has meaning for you I say play it. I listen to lyrics but i'm a music nerd lol

Do what makes you happy! Most of the time people don't pay attention to the lyrics and if they do.. who cares?? It's your day! Do what is going to make you guys feel special.

No need to care what other people think of your first dance song - if it is special to you then use it! People probably won't pay much attention to the lyrics, and if you're really worried about it you could always look for an acoustic version (but really, dance to whatever makes you happy!)

This is my dilemma too, lol! My FH and I both LOVE the song talk is cheap... but the lyrics aren't exactly what you'd expect for a wedding song, at all! But I think we are going to use it anyways. When me and FH started dating we would listen to it constantly together

Our first dance song is Wagon Wheel, which isn’t really super romantic, but it’s special to us so we don’t care! If it’s special to you then use it. Nobody will care and if they do, it won’t matter.

I understand your concern. Some of my chosen songs are darker or heavier (Stone Sour, Godsmack), but they mean something to me and express my feelings for my FH, and that's all that matters. I think your song is just fine.
