First Dance Song Choice

Is anyone else having trouble picking all the special dance songs? FH and I just want a simple sweet swaying slow song. We leaned toward "Crazy Love" by Van Morrison when looking through the top first dance playlists, but it just felt too 70s, which I mean, it is, so I guess we can't find a song...

We leaned toward "Crazy Love" by Van Morrison when looking through the top first dance playlists, but it just felt too 70s, which I mean, it is, so I guess we can't find a song with that vibe but more modern. Anyone have any thoughts? We also decided to do a combined mother/son father/daughter dance and are a little stuck for that one too. My dad suggested Frank Zappa "Dancing Fool", but that might be just a pinch too silly, lol.

We are doing "Die A Happy Man" by Thomas Rhett. He's not really big into country like I am, but the first time he heard that song he loved it. I wanted "In Case You Didn't Know" by Brett Young but he wasn't as into that one, so we agreed on "Die A Happy Man." We have a "song" but it's too fast for that. We will incorporate it elsewhere into the reception.

Just to add my two cents - we're dancing to "Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me" by Gladys Knight and The Pips (lyrics suit us to a tee), and Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell."

We danced to Faithfully by Journey. When my Husband and I started dating back in college, this was the first song we ever danced to. And it's been our song ever since. It was perfect our guests and even our DJ loved our choice.

A little relieved to know that I am not the only one with this issue!

I started a thread on this yesterday and I got lots of suggestions and great advice, the most brilliant one being to look for cover/ instrumental versions of songs whose lyrics we like.

We finally settled on Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran. We were going with Give Me Love or Set Me On Fire by Bella Ferraro but it took months to figure it out lol

I ran a bunch of these past the FH just now, and he seems to hate every song with lyrics. Now we're leaning toward "Can't Help Falling in Love" Vitamin String Quartet version.

Yes!! We had the hardest time! Then one night I was listening to pandora and I had FH listen to it. Normally he doesn't like the band nor country music but he said that it fit us perfectly

I'm starting to seriously consider "Straight Into Your Arms" by Vance Joy. I wouldn't consider it a traditional first dance kind of song, but I love the overall message behind it and think it's sweet. I'm not totally sure yet though.

The only song I'm totally set on is "Never Grow Up" by Taylor Swift for the dance with my dad. I made him a photo slideshow in college to that song and my family's loved ever since.

I love Crazy Love by Van Morrison! That was always our song. It'll be our wedding song.

I know it's a cliche and so 2009, but we are dancing to Lucky by Jason Mraz. FH is not a music person and he likes it and it is sweet. It was that or All I want is You from the Juno soundtrack- a little difficult to dance to...

We danced to Harvest Moon by Neil Young. I wanted something slow and easy to dance to that was a classic.

ETA: For the father/daughter dance - we did "In my Life" by the Beatles. It would work for a combined dance as well!

ETA2: We had a live rock band... so that kind of influenced the decision as well regarding musical styles.

For the parents dance I will prob use: Child of Mine by Carole King! I loved it. Then when I asked my neighbor for help she said it. All I needed to hear.
