First Dance Song Choice

lawn_flamingo, on July 21, 2017 at 8:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 38

Is anyone else having trouble picking all the special dance songs? FH and I just want a simple sweet swaying slow song. We leaned toward "Crazy Love" by Van Morrison when looking through the top first dance playlists, but it just felt too 70s, which I mean, it is, so I guess we can't find a song with that vibe but more modern. Anyone have any thoughts? We also decided to do a combined mother/son father/daughter dance and are a little stuck for that one too. My dad suggested Frank Zappa "Dancing Fool", but that might be just a pinch too silly, lol.

We had awful trouble picking one we both liked. We eventually settled on Ed Sheeran "thinking out loud". We both have very different tastes in music, I think it was the hardest thing to decide on throughout all of the planning process.

We danced to Take my Hand by a relatively unknown duo. I Was Born To Be Your Woman by Joey and Rory was a close second, just a bit too country for DH's tastes. You can find both on YouTube!

I think a sillier parent dance would be cute! How does your FMIL feel about it?

So funny! I'm considering Van Morrison's "Crazy Love" for my processional song because I can't think of anything else! It doesn't have any special meaning like the rest of our choices but it's nice and mellow and pretty perfect for a wedding.

For a more modern take, you can try the Michael Buble cover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKZBDeamZPU

Finally decided on You+Me by You and Me after circling back to it several times.

have you tried looking for covers of crazy love? that will eliminate the dated sound.

We did Eric Clapton, Wonderful Tonight. We were toying with Crazy Love and Into the Mystic, but he and his mom danced to days like this by VM and we got married in Mystic, CT sooo Clapton was our work around.

Crazy Love is a beautiful song that really is timeless and doesn't sound "70s" in my opinion. However, if you want something more modern along those lines, check out Ray LaMontagne, Jason Mraz, Ed Sheerin. Paul Carrack (of Squeeze) did a cover of Crazy Love in 2014 and it's really good.

@lawn_flamingo, are you familiar with Ray LaMontagne? He's got the same kind of folksy/bluesy style as Van Morrison. You Are the Best Thing, Hold You in My Arms and Let it Be Me are just three options that might suit your taste. they are far from new, but not the 70s.

I'm pretty sure we will use Van's Someone Like You... I don't care if it is old school =-)

I'm far out but we are either using fly me to the moon by frank Sinatra or at last by Etta James. Both of them may be overdone but I wanted something classic and FH loves Sinatra so I don't even care.

I made a playlist on YouTube with about 40 songs I liked and/ or thought FH would like. I spent probably 4 hours adding songs and had to do some searching outside the normal lists that are usually suggested. We finally settled on Finally Forever by Chris Cornell for our first dance song, but we haven't picked anything else lol.

We are dancing to Dance Like Nobody's Watching by Donavon Frankenreiter. We are having a beach wedding and wanted more beachy sounding music. Also doing a combined father daughter/ mother son dance and thinking about using In My Life by the Beatles but still not 100% sure on that one.
