So I have my first bridal appointment Saturday at Davids Bridal! It wasn't my first choice, but I would rather go there first and then go the cute bridal boutiques after. My question is, what did you ladies do when you went to your first appointment? Did you already have a vision of you dress? Any reference pictures? Did you bring your Spanx with you?! How were your experiences at Davids? Anything you wish you had done differently? TIA!

Wear your own bra. DB's are so uncomfortable. Make sure your undies are not too tight. Wear a pair with full coverage. I didn't wear spanx or any shapeware. I wouldn't worry about shoes.

You could even try theirs on for a heel height. Good luck at Davids & hope it's a good experience for you!

I had 's good experience with David's Bridal! I kind of had trumpet in mind and that's what I ended up with (from DB) but i' d say yes be open to other styles just in case your dream dress ends up being totally different. Also if you can, go on weekday or weekday evening. It's sooo much less crowded then!

-Be super open with everything they bring you.

    -Try on whatever you can

-Wear full coverage underwear. I wore a bra there but did not keep it on while trying dresses on.

-Don't feel pressured, but go with your gut.

-Do not try on anything out of budget. That was my mom's #1 strict rule - nothing out of budget.

-Don't worry about the sizes, they will clip them, big or small so you can see what it will look and feel like!

The first time I brought my mom and FMIL

The second time I brought my mom, FMIL, cousin, aunt and FSIL (brother's fiance).'

ETA: I did not go to DB at all, but that is my advice regardless

I went to DB on a weekday and it was much emptier that it usually is at the weekend. I also made sure that I looked on their website, and favorited dresses that made me happy - I also knew that I wanted a-line or ball gown probably. The consultant at my DB was very nice - she looked at my favorites, pulled ones I liked, and some that were similar, that I had not seen online. I ended up liking 2, so I put them each on again, and I knew. It was the 6th dress I tried on, but every time I have it on I smile. You'll know.

Just make sure you don't try on anything out of budget - I have a friend who did this (because she refused to tell the consultant the budget) and she ended up leaving "her" dress.

My experience at DB was amazing! I had made two appointments. First one was for me and directly after was for my BM they all came from out of town to try on dresses to see which one they could all agree on. So I brought my four BMs, my MOH couldn't make her flight, but also my mom and FMIL came with as well.

My stylist put me into a corset and a slip to go with the "mermaid" style dresses that I was most interested in. Gave her a little description of what I wanted and she came back with a couple dresses. The first dress I put on I fell absolutely in love with. It was perfect. I couldn't imagine any other dresses on me after trying on that dress but everyone insisted I tried other styles. I tried on a few more and still went back to that first dress! Not only was it in my budget but it was also on sale! My stylist was amazing! She placed the perfect veil on me, put a tiara, earrings and a necklace on me to make me see what it all would look like together. She was super nice and patient with me and my friends/family.

Seriously couldn't have asked for a better experience!! My girls even had a wonderful experience with their BM appointment and was able to find a dress style that complimented my dress that they could all agree on.

And the say yes to the dress experience was sooooo nice! I ended up bawling in my dress and I never thought I'd cry in a dress haha. Everyone cheered and clapped on the building and I got to ring a little bell!

Give it a shot and Keep your mind open! Not everyone has bad experiences there Smiley smile

Take your sweet sweet sweet sweet time and make SURE you love your dress. Don't make a panic purchase, don't feel pressured by ANYONE, take pictures of EVERY dress, front and back, and sleep on it before you choose. I found that I felt differently about dresses in the mirror vs. in pictures. HAVE FUN! This is such a wonderful, memorable time!

I went to Davids bridal to look at dresses earlier in the spring. I didn't select my dress from there, but I had a great experience.

My best suggestion is to 1) take someone with you whose opinion you trust. It helps to have another optimism! 2) be tooootally honest with your consultant! Hiding your feelings won't help him/her pull a better dress for you! Also be sure to be clear about your budget. 3) be open to trying on something a little different than your vision. If what you had in mind isn't working, trust your consultant to pull something a little different - they're the expert!

    Hope that helps, good luck!

My only advice with going to DB (or any salon) is to make sure you stand up for what you want, tell your consultant if the undergarments are uncomfortable, and DO NOT budge on your price point! I know others have had fabulous experiences, but I left DB upset because of things like that. My consultant had me in undergarments 2 sizes too small, crowding me in the small dressing room (I’m claustrophobic) and was putting me in dresses that were double my budget and the exact opposite of the style I wanted. This could happen in any bridal salon, but DB was only one of 2 bad experiences I had (and I went to about 10 different stores)!
