First appointment at David's Saturday. Any advice?

Ashley S., on June 19, 2017 at 2:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

So I have my first bridal appointment Saturday at Davids Bridal! It wasn't my first choice, but I would rather go there first and then go the cute bridal boutiques after. My question is, what did you ladies do when you went to your first appointment? Did you already have a vision of you dress? Any reference pictures? Did you bring your Spanx with you?! How were your experiences at Davids? Anything you wish you had done differently? TIA!

Definitely try on many silhouettes to see what fits best.

Look at some of their dresses on the website. be open to any style. Expect to need different sizes in different styles. ( mermaids I'm 18) my wedding dress is a 12. Take breaks as you need them. My Davids Experience was great! Both shops, but the smaller one was the best!

ETA: bring multiple styles of bras( strapless, racerback, backless, traditional, because theirs are super uncomfortable. ) You also dont need to use their shape wear. Bring your own if you think you're gonna wear it.

I brought a collage of pictures of dresses i liked

(And then the dress I ended up buying looked nothing like those! lol)

I had the worst DB experience so good luck with yours..

You don't really need to bring your spanx, most of the dresses are in a size 10 or 12 so depending on your size the dress will be too big and they'll clip it onto you.

If your plan is to shop around for a couple weeks, try not to get overwhelmed by peer pressure or sales pitches, you don't want to get buyer's remorse. If It's DB it will more than likely still be available for purchase if you decide to come back to it in a couple weeks.

You can order a lot of David's Bridal styles online quicker than they can get them to you in store. Sometimes you can also find the sames styles from other places for less money and easier customer service. I ended buying a dress I tried on at David's through Macy's. It was quicker, easier, and less expensive.

Don't buy one yet! Shop around more. I ended up buying one from the first shop I tried on dresses at. It was a huge mistake and waste of money. I ended up getting another one from a different shop. They can always order more of that dress, don't be afraid to leave and then go back to it.

Good luck!! It's so much fun!

Ok, I didn't know they offered you bras and shapewear. I was going to bring my own for comfort anyways. How many people did you all bring with you??

I had the BEST experience at DB and ended up cancelling my bridal boutique appointments.

I wore a regular bra because I knew I wanted backless and white underwear. I don't do spanx but if you plan on wearing them, I would bring them.

You could create a pinterest board of styles you liked. I didn't; I knew if I made one and didn't find the exact dress, I would just be disappointed.

I went in a few minutes early and we got to pop around the showroom and look at some of their dresses before we met the stylist. When I finally met him, I told him my budget, that I wanted a backless dress, and said "I really like this dress on this mannequin and that dress on that mannequin." You get to try on three dresses when you get there, you rate them on a scale, and then your stylist will offer to replace the low rating ones. He grabbed me the first two dresses I chose and picked out another backless dress in my budget. I ended up buying the second dress I tried on - it hit all my checkmarks: in my budget, backless, lace, no train. And got a couple veils.

A lot of people don't have pleasant experiences with DB because they say they feel pressured to buy something. My stylist was great and just went with everything. If you're firm but nice, they'll back off. I'd say the only thing the manager, not my stylist, tried to push me on was scheduling my BMs for their dresses. They want those sales. I politely told them none of my BMs lived in the area (we ended up using Azazie anyways).

Just go into it open-minded. It wasn't my first choice either!

ETA - Most of the dresses at DB are not in a size 10 or 12...My DB had literally every single size from 00 to plus size. Unless I missed a previous post where you stated your size, please don't let that statement dissuade you.

You can go online to David's bridal select dresses you like and if they are available at your store they will pull them for you to try on. I did that as well as just going thro the racks.

If you download the David's Bridal app, it's super helpful at your appointment! Maybe take a screen shot of the dresses on your list from you app and show your consultant. Talk to them about the type of venue you're having and time of year. My consultant there figured me out pretty quickly and pulled the dress that I ended up picking, and I hadn't even seen it before. Keep an open mind as well! And ENJOY this!

Also, I brought my MOH, FSIL, Mom and FMIL. So my two sisters and my two moms haha! I'm not wearing a bra with my dress so I didn't bring one with me...the consultant and I just navigated well so she didn't get flashed every time. I also wore like bloomers (what cheerleaders & competitive dancers wear) because mine still fit me and they worked fine. Don't brother with Spanx until you've purchased your dress! Have fun!

My DB experience was a waste of my time. While I got to try on at least a dozen dresses at other shops, I only got to try on maybe 6 or 7 at DB, and all the dresses were ugly. My consultant would not listen to my feedback and kept bringing me dresses SHE liked, not what I liked. And I had to stand there in an ugly dress waiting for her to find another one.

At all the other shops, the consultants pulled as I was changing or "admiring" myself so there was always a few dresses lined up & ready to go for me to try on next. I was in and out. At DB, it was mainly just standing around & waiting. She wouldn't let me look through the dresses either.

AND THEN she tried to sell me on the one that I said was the least ugly. I took 3 people with me and they were all so turned off by DB.

But I know every location is different so I hope you have a good time

I had the absolute worst experience at David's Bridal and I always said I would never go there for my wedding dress but the same exact dress I ended up with was almost $1,000 MORE at a smaller shop. Be prepared to do most of the work.

Go early and comb the racks for anything you see that you want to try on. Try different styles, fabrics and shades. Take pictures of the tag to show your consultant show they can pull them for you. I ended up having to pull most of the dresses because even though they were my size and on the rack my consultant claimed she couldn't find them.

If you have a good consultant she will also recommend dresses for you. I wish you the best of luck and hope you have a better experience than I did

Okay, anytime I have gone to a David's Bridal on a Saturday, it has been mobbed. So, bring your patience. If there is any chance to move the appointment to like a weekday or weekday evening, I would say try that.

I brought my mom, and two of my local friends to look at dresses.

I wore my own underwear (Strapless bra and slipshorts), but I did not wear spanx.

I brought a pair of nude heels. I knew they wouldn't be the exact shoe I would wear, but I never visualize dresses right in bare feet, especially because i wanted short.

If you haven't already given them your email, get a new "throwaway" from gmail or whatever. They will sell your email to everyone under the sun.

Ditto on PP about size differences. Please don't get hung up on what size each dress is. I wear about 16 street size, but the different dresses varied between that and a 20. Wear a strapless bra and don't forget to shave Smiley smile

Just try to be open and try a little bit of everything. You'd be surprised at what looks right and what doesn't.

I visited the site and shared pictures of all the styles I was interested in. I'd bring just a few of your most valued people to the appointment, but not your entire chunk of family and friends (only the few people who would really look out for what would make you happy). I was alone at all of my three appointments...I recently moved out of state.

I'm sending you good vibes and hope your appointment is awesome!

My first appointment (for my wedding dress) was the best, but the next appointment to look at and order bridesmaids dresses was terrible, and then receiving them was even worse. They told us each dress would come in at different times (and they did) but when they would call me and tell me to pick them up I would explain that I live an hour away and had to wait until the following Saturday to pick them up - they would tell me that it was fine and then I'd receive 5 more calls before the weekend asking when I would pick them up. Each time, I would repeat myself, and then they would say something along the lines of "Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't read the comment in your account!"... REALLY? Checking out the day of ordering the BM and MOB dresses was terrible. The lady at the register could NOT keep anything straight. Names, sizes, dresses... Repeatedly had to be reentered because she kept losing track of whose dress she had already placed in the system. We were really nervous we either wouldn't get all of them or that they would come in the wrong size. So far, though, all have come in as expected with the belts. But the appointment for my dress was FANTASTIC and I loved the girl who helped me find my dress. She was even handling two other girls at the same time but never made me feel abandoned or like she didn't care. I always had numerous options in the fitting room and she always helped me in/out of the dress, offered options with each dress regarding style, fit, accessories, etc. and also helped my mom and sister take pictures so I could better judge each dress. It was really awesome.

    - Wear white/light underwear and either a strapless bra or be prepared to wear one of theirs.

    - Be open to trying on styles you would never see yourself in and be prepared to hate styles you thought you would love!

    - No matter how much you love something, don't buy the same day. Sleep on it, try on a few others at different boutiques. If it still really calls to you, go back.

Had i bought the first dress I thought I loved, I would have never found "the dress". It was a complete 180 away from anything I thought I wanted (not white, ballgown, embellished, fluffy)

    - And most importantly, have fun with it!!
