I am so upset and emotional that I had to fire my wedding planner 9 months away from my wedding. I had to let her go because she was horrible at communication, she never made my wedding an obligation, she would go weeks and weeks without returning my emails, phone calls and text messages. It was to the point where I did not trust that she could deliver on my wedding day. It was to the point where I was starting to stress. Moving forward, I am thinking of doing my wedding without a wedding planner. Is this a good idea? Is anyone else planning their own wedding?

I agree, I did not need a Day of Coordinator as our wedding was not that much to coordinate, but if you are having a many things to coordinate, lol, get one.

I did not use a wedding planner. It my second time at bat and our wedding was low key. No regrets.

Hey girl! I am a wedding planner so 1. I hate that you had that experience, I'm so sorry! 2. If you're a fairly organized person and you feel a lot of it is planned, you can TOTALLY do this yourself with the help of some close family and friends

We have a coordinator who is part of the wedding package at the hotel where we’re getting married, and the banquet managers at the reception venue have been incredibly helpful, but I do not have a wedding planner. I actually don’t have any help at all, other than FH, and I’m okay with that because I’m a control freak and like to do everything myself anyway😂😂!!

It hasn’t been a problem and if you have help from family and friends, you can probably go without.

I planned my own wedding and hired a wedding planner as a Day Of Coordinator but she was working from the time I hired her which was 6 months before. She went well above what she was hired to do and made my vision come to light and my wedding day less stressful. I’m big on communication and she was more in touch with me than i was her and I loved that. She was absolutely worth every penny. Idk what state you’re in but I would highly recommend who I worked with if you’re in the DMV area.

I decided to use a wedding planner and so far it has been great. I noticed that after we confirmed I felt a lot less stressed. It costs additional money, but I think in the long run it will be worth it. On the day of, she told me to send all vendors / questions directly to her and she will handle everything... that alone is a huge relief!

I have been planning our wedding by myself (with a little help from FH). It's been a little stressful from time to time, but it hasn't been that difficult. Just keep yourself organized with Google Docs or a big binder and you'll be fine. I personally don't see the need to spend money on a planner.

I didn't hire a planner. I can make my own phone calls, and pick decor. However a DOC is SUPER IMPORTANT! Hire a DOC for sure.

Id hire a day of planner. They are pretty amazing. I think everyone has different expectations from wedding planners though. Your planner probably had 30+ weddings before yours since it is 9 months away so you are right, not a priority at this time, although you should still feel respected and like she is helping you.
I fired one because she kept saying stuffing like "I had found my prince charming" and how she couldn't wait to work on "my fairytale day". I hate that attitude. Brides arent princesses. Marriages and relationships are hard, no fairytale there.

I didn't have a wedding planner. I did all of the planning within 2 months. Planned and paid for. Now I'm just doing little things that I have decided to add or things I didnt need to work on until it was closer. And I am not stressed one bit. I have actually really enjoyed wedding planning. It was tons of fun. Me and fh did it together with no one elses opinions or help and we had alot of fun doing this together.

I'm not using a wedding planner. The only thing I might consider is a DOC just so I don't have to worry about that part.
    It'll be all right

I hired a wedding planner but we are having a very large wedding and I am a person who has no idea what I want my decor to look like etc so I needed someone to do all that for me haha.

I am planning my own because I couldn’t justify the $5-$7k cost I received. I am hiring a DOC. Best wishes.

Planning my own with help from the venue coordinator. Smiley smile

I'm hoping all goes well, but since there isn't really a trial run, we'll see! Smiley smile

I would at least have a day of planner to take care of small details so that you are not the first point of contact. You do not want people calling or texting you the day of your wedding.

Doing it myself (very low-key wedding/more like a house party + variety show at a funky venue and we are bringing in all the food and booze ourselves) but I have a couple of friends who have volunteered to run point on different things for the day itself. Everyone works in theater and film production and events so I'm confident it will work out.

I'm in the UK and wedding planners aren't the norm here. I've never known of anyone having a wedding planner or DOC. Every wedding I've been to had been planned by the bride and groom and has been amazing. Me and my fiance are the only people planning and organising ours. I think you can do it easily if you're organised Smiley smile
