Fire department/EMS wedding

Megan, on January 1, 2013 at 6:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

My FH and I are firefighters/EMTs. We would like to incorporate our careers into our wedding wo being gaudy . Majority of our guests will be fire EMTs and family. Does anyone have any ideas to incorporate this theme? We will also be having an outdoor reception. Thank you for your help in advance!

You could use the firefighter or EMT maltese cross, maybe use your names instead of where it has the department name?

You could choose colors for the wedding that would be representative of the careers? Like navy, red, gold?

Obviously not the greatest cross but I couldn't picture it myself without adding some picture of one :o)

It could just be the "colors" mostly like red and Black.

And then have a little touches everywhere like on your garter and a firetruck grooms cake. You could have pictures done in front of a fire truck. Maybe a photobooth with fire hats.

Also if you are planning to do Engagement pictures you could do something cute with a fire truck in the background and put those on your STDs.

The key is little touches. Maybe do a firefighter or an emt cake topper. Or incorporate the cross on the napkins. I also like the garter idea that Mrs Jaclyn Willson posted above me.

As a florist I instantly start planning flowers, how about yellow neoprene with reflective tape as ribbon, like the fire suits?

There is also one great flower that looks like flames, called a gloriosa lily, best color is orange, but it also comes in red and yellow.

that one flower pared with just about anything else or even all by it self could really make the theme, it should be available year round.

First, thank you for being Firefighters/EMT's. My home was saved by 100 brave firefighters...i had damage and could not live in my home for six months, but, these brave men and women kept the flames from getting inside my home and did their best to save the two homes to my north (the battle was lost, yet rebuilt). Photo shows what heros firefighters are (on my roof).

Whew, okay, on to the subject at hand. I would also keep the career theme to a minimum. I love the cake topper idea. You could also do a logo on paper cocktail napkins at the bar.

The colors can rule, as well. Bagpipes tend to be big, with Fire Depts. That could be incorporated, if you like that idea. Also, if you like dogs, Dalmatians?

Is your wedding and reception at the same location? I went to a wedding in Columbus where the groom was a fire fighter and instead of a limo they rode away from the ceremony to the reception in a fire truck it was pretty awesome

How about a siren to announce your arrival to the reception and you can have the DJ set off red flashing lights? There is a really cool lighting effect that looks like flames dancing on the ceiling or floor that could be incorporated during the dance and of course, a fog machine for the smoke. If you plan to do the dollar dance or something similar, you can "pass the boot" to collect the money. You can do the Limbo and use a pike pole for the limbo stick. Does your department have a mascot or character? Ours has Firefighter Phil and Fire Pup that are costumes someone could make an appearance during the dance for something quirky and fun.

I've done uplights fading between red and orange and yellow to simulate glowing flames. Very cool effect!

    Best of luck! Smiley smile

DH is a FF too Smiley smile You can do a cake topper, like the other ladies said. I also like the use of fire trucks instead of limos, an old antique fire truck make for great photos!! We asked the Reverend to read the firemen's prayer and say a special blessing to firemen when he said grace before dinner, it was a nice touch since we had many firemen in the room.

I would suggest not too go too crazy with the theme of ff/emt though, it may start to look like a birthday party. I would say it wold be all about the colors.

I have also seen people use a small fire ax instead of a cake knife
