Finding a wedding dress- feeling defeated, self conscious!

Coastal, on October 8, 2019 at 10:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
I've been trying on dresses and hate the way they look on me. I found the one I LOVED online, tried it on and it looked hideous. I'm a curvy woman- plus sized- and I just did not have that absolutely amazing experience looking for a dress. I still have yet to find one. I am 9 months out from wedding day and in the process of losing weight (which is also probably what is causing me so much anxiety).. I ordered stuff from azazie to try on at home and just recieved then today. Only tried one on out of the three. Trying the rest tomorrow. I loved the first one on their site (but not on me) but hoping the other two are something I like. I'm truly not picky... I think I'm having extreme anxiety over significant weight loss and the suggestions of basically having my dress ordered by now! Plus since I'm not at the weight I want to be at yet, i dont feel very bridal. Idk what dress size to even order.... ugh. Any tips? Thanks.

We all have insecurities and have those “omg nothing is going to look good on me” days, but just remember you’re getting married because your partner loves all of you, not just how you look!

That being said I definitely think it’s important to feel your best on your wedding day, so even though you haven’t found anything yet keep looking! Do you have a favorite dress? If so, look for a wedding dress that has a similar shape or material. Also make sure you try on every silhouette, I was surprised with what actually looked good on me. I ended up going with something totally different from what I thought I would.

Myother recommendation is to just be consistent with eating healthy and doing 30 minutes of exercise every day, it takes time but results will come (and drink soooo much water!). Remember that no matter what, you’re going to be so happy on your wedding day you’ll be glowing and gorgeous whether you’re in a princess dress or a paper bag! Good luck finding a dress and keep us updated! 💕

Well, when I went dress shopping, my consultant told me to size up in dresses (I'm a size 14 normally), my wedding dress fit almost perfect at a size 18. Also, dont be afraid to try something you're not liking on the hanger. I HATED the look of my dress on the hanger but ended up loving it on me. It's nothing like I expected to buy. Good luck! I suggest trying something totally different than what you like! You may be surprised. I am going with a fit I didn’t intend on getting and I’m glad I tried it on.

I’m sorry your having such a hard time. I went two two dress shops and felt and the sizes where so small that I couldn’t fit in them, and I’m not considered plus sized. It was hard for me but then I found a bridal shop in Augusta GA, not sure where your located. But, all of their dress are larger for more curvy brides so that no one has a negative experience. I would look into dress shops that carry larger sizes but also have a variety of styles in those sizes. Hope this helps!

I'm a plus sized bride - bridal size 22 - and I was terrified about going into bridal salons and having to negotiate the sample sizes. So much so that i decided to tackle my anxiety head first and went into David's Bridal for a solo try on just to see what I liked. They had plenty of samples in my size, lots of styles, and the consultant was wonderful. I actually almost didn't try on my dress - it was an organza ruffled ballgown with a drop waist that hugs my curves perfectly and is gorgeous beyond words - but did because I wanted to see a variety of things. My suggestion would be to make an appointment with an open mind, go in and just see what you like. And keep in mind that it's the dress that doesn't fit right, not you having a problem! You don't have to buy from DB, but at least you can see what styles you like and get a good idea on what works for you.

You're beautiful. Sometimes we are just our own worst critics ya know? My suggestion is find something that makes you feel comfortable also though. It's in if we feel good, ya know?

Thanks . I appreciate it! I'm on the "lower" end of plus sizing but I still feel it's so difficult to find any dress over a standard 12 which is really like a 16 in WD sizing! Crazyyyyy

Thanks heather! You're so right . The one dress I wasn't expecting to like the style, but it was better than the style I was loving initially. Back to the drawing board, but feeling better knowing what style works and doesnt. Thank you!
