Figuring out how many Save the dates to order

Private User, on September 4, 2013 at 1:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I'm kind of stuck on something... I need to figure out how many save the dates to order. Do i get one for each invitation that i need to mail out? If they are family can i just send one per household since a lot of cousins still live at home? Also I feel like our guest list isn't necessarily finalized (we're torn on inviting work ppl- im not super tight with ppl here but i get along well with ppl in my office; we chat and text) so i should probably figure that out first bc i cant send Save the dates to ppl who get cut from invites.

Not everyone needs a STD. In fact I would only send them to your VIPs. This far from your wedding, you don't know how relationships will change and it would stink to have to invite someone just because you sent them a save the date a year out.

I would hold off on sending the STDs until you have a finalized or almost finalized guest list..read some of the not fun forums people have recently posted about sending too many STDs. If your wedding is OOT send them 9-10 months out. If it is not then 6 months is fine.

Only send an STD to those people you REALLY want to or must invite.

STDs aren't a requirement so you don't have to send them at all if you don't want.

I ordered more than I needed, good thing. Some anticipated guests didn't received them, so I had to send out more. Also, after I completed the big mail-out; I realized that I forgot a couple of guests. In addition, we spelled some names wrong on the envelope; had to correct them. I would order at least 10 extra.

    One per household is fine.

And like other people said, don't be afraid to be judicious in who you send them to, because once they get a save the date there's no turning back! There are a few people I wish we hadn't sent them to, because six months later I wouldn't have invited them. Only send them to people who you really, absolutely want to be there.

One per household. I only sent STD's to those who had to make travel arrangements. I order a few more in case we forgot someone or just for keepsakes.

I sent one to each couple/family on the guest list. We are having a DW and I wanted to give everyone time to prepare.
