Fiancé doesn't want ring

Regan, on July 29, 2016 at 11:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 87

My FH says that he isn't going to wear his ring during the week. He works in a machine shop (not where a ring would be dangerous). He said it wouldn't be dangerous, just uncomfortable. He compared it to wearing a watch. And how he doesn't like wearing a watch either, Anyone's FH being difficult about wearing a wedding band?

No- mine is very excited. Has he tried any on? Maybe when he finds one he really likes and is comfortable with, his tune will change. It is to symbolize his commitment to you, after all!

Would a silicon ring be better?

Every time my FH tries his ring on, he says it feels uncomfortable. I get that... My e ring feels super weird on my right ring finger. I know he'll get used to it though. Maybe your FH just needs to do the same?

My future hubby was definitely a bit shy at the idea of wearing his ring. He said he is definitely going to have a hard time getting used to it, and the first few weeks at least, he's going to wear it on a chain while he works (he does farm work, as well as a lot of other physical labor)

Maybe he would consider a silicone band that is not uncomfortable?

He is a machinist. He does mostly computer programming and it's a situation where if his hand is hurt, the ring won't make a difference. It's more of just him not wanting to be uncomfortable. I guess it just hurt my feelings when he said that

Due to my FH's line of work, he too would be unable to wear a ring regularly. Instead he is getting a tattoo on his ring finger.

My FH doesn't like wearing rings at all but decided to get a thin one and try to see how it feels. Maybe if it's thin he wouldn't mind as much?

My husband was worried about it just because he says he hates rings and watches. He considered getting his "ring" tattooed on this finger because he wanted the symbol of the ring, without the physical ring that he assumed would bother him. We ended up buying rings and he wears it and admits it doesn't bother him nearly as much as he assumed it would. He also admits that it gets easier/he notices it less and less all the time. We've been married for two months today, so I think that is a good sign. In the grand scheme of the rest of our lives, if he is already getting used to it after just two months, I think he'll be fine for the future.

I don't think it's a big deal at all. Some people aren't jewelry people. I personally don't like wearing rings. I wear my e-ring and/or wedding band sometimes but not always. My husband often doesn't wear his as he isn't the biggest fan of rings either. It does not mean we are less married.

I suggested that! Not to be morbid, but he said that with the machines he works with, if something happened it wouldn't just be his hand that got messed up. So that isn't the concern, just the "comfort". I guess my feelings were just hurt hearing this. Maybe I'm being over sensitive.

Mine doesn't like wearing his either. He told me that he's never liked the feeling of wearing a ring. I was a little hurt at first but I got over it. He doesn't love me any less. We are still married. He has a job that it's not the best idea to wear a ring. (He works corrections and it's best if the inmates know as little as possible about him.) I just made him promise to wear it when my parents are in town. lol

I don't think you're being over sensitive, I think my feelings would be a little hurt too BUT some people just really can never get used to that feeling of something in between their fingers so I definitely don't think he's doing it in bad spirit...

My FH actually wanted to wear an engagement ring as well so he's worn a band this whole time but it's really all personal preference and it's hard to make anyone wear anything they don't feel comfortable with :/ But I second everyone else about the silicone ring! You can find some on Amazon for pretty cheap and they are super comfortable. We both have Qualos for when we work out and they don't get caught in anything and are super comfortable. Maybe you guys could try that?

My FH won't wear the ring. He is a Mechanic so he wants a ring tattoo instead.

My FH is a violinist, and he says he'll have to take his ring off every time he plays, or else the added weight of the ring will throw off his playing. I say he just needs to get used to it. I've been meeting ring-wearing violinists all over the country who play beautifully. I send pictures of their hands to my FH. He's coming around, because he knows it's important to me. He also won't let me buy him a medical ID bracelet despite his deadly peanut allergy, because he says it would be uncomfortable. Grr.

My FH is a software engineer (so lots of coding at the computer) and he didn't want a traditional metal ring. He found the QALO rings online and wanted us both to get one and I was like "lol, no" but I did say that I was fine if he wanted that kind of ring but I also kind of hate them.

Then I was visiting some family and I noticed my cousin was wearing a QALO ring and I mentioned that FH really wants one. My cousin has a similar job to FH and he pointed out some of the benefits but he said that he also had a real ring that he can wear on special occasions so I told FH and he's decided to get a silicone ring to wear everyday and a metal ring for special occasions.

So not my FH but my dad has literally never in my life worn his wedding ring (I'm 31). I think the reasoning is he gained weight and never had it resized. Doesn't seem to bother my mom and he certainly doesn't love her any less.

Mine doesnt really want one, either. We work on cars, so he will take it off during work. He doesnt wear any jewelry, and doesnt like the way it feels. I told him its up to him if he wants to wear one or not, but he has been trying on different ones to see what he "likes most"
