My fiance has social anxiety and the wedding has gotten to him. We get the married the 21st - only a week away. Even if we wanted to, Xanax isn't an option to help him - we have no insurance for him and I wouldn't risk side effects this close. Do you guys have any ideas for how to help him calm...

Do you guys have any ideas for how to help him calm down? He's thrown up because of his anxiety multiple times and it isn't even the day yet! Herbal teas, for example....

I'm so worried for him and I just want him to feel better!

Oh wow! I totally feel for him because this will more than likely be me on the wedding day. Maybe not vomiting but nerves maxed out. I don't do well in front of crowds or groups of ppl and the thought of most of our friends and family specifically staring at me makes me jittery. :/ My FHs stomach and digestive track get all messed up when he stressed or really anxious. We are both on Zoloft which helps in general but I think we'll be taking a few extra pills that day & week! Lol. I think trying to keep from thinking about it will help alot but that can be Really hard to do. Hope you find something to calm him down. If he's vomiting too much & not eating or drinking, he'll get dehydrated quickly which means he could end up in the hospital. See if his friends or GMs can get him to go get lunch or dinner but no alcohol.

I have a lot of anxiety & panic attacks, thankfully they are mostly controllable now. But when it first started I would panic to the point of vomiting multiple times a day.

Next time he's nervous like this tell him it's ok to feel like this, for him to tell himself it's ok to feel nervous. It's ok to feel this way and that's he's ok. Breathe in through the nose & out through the mouth 2x as long as the inhale.

Exercise is helpful, even just a quick walk can sometimes help. Does he feel too hot when anxious? For me I like to make myself cold otherwise I feel like I'm choking, so I'll step outside in bare minimum, get super cold then go back inside. It sounds silly but it works for my bigger panic attacks.

I came up with one more thing that really helps sometimes! Rescue Remedy. It's an over the counter homeopathic remedy that can help with things like this. I take it before auditions because I shake. It doesn't solve all my anxiety and nerves for them, but it does help.

I know someone who goes to sleep after she takes it...everyone reacts differently to it, so it really is a gamble, but I swear by it for my own nerves.

Orange bitters in gingerale. Both bitters and ginger calm the stomach. I have a VERY nervous stomach (I throw up before every major change) and I drank this all day and night before my wedding...It will definitely help!!

I'll second the suggestion of gingerale, just make sure it's made with real ginger. Something I've found works wonders is Peppermint oil, especially in the easy to find form of Altoids. Peppermint is a natural anti-nausea. Lavender oil on the pulse points can help calm nerves. And there are any number of herbal remedies that work well for anxiety, but I wouldn't count on the people working a supplement shop to really be able to make good suggestions on something like this. If you like, I do know a wonderful herbalist who has helped me in the past, and I can pass on her info.

St. John's Wort? I don't have extreme anxiety but it helps me with daily stresses.

Alright. A quick update - he seems to be doing better. Or at least "better" considering he was hung over all day. We had our bachelor/ette parties last night, and he doesn't seem so nervous any more.

Thank you all for the suggestions! So far, things are looking up. Smiley smile

Some things I have used myself, and some things I have seen Dr.s I use to work with suggest that don't require a prescription and are relatively inexpensive are 1. Vitamins. Especially C, B, Zinc, Magnesium, as well as St. John's Wart and fish oil. 2. Small doses of Dramamine to help reduce the vomiting. 3. Eat light but healthy....fruit, toast, crackers, chicken soup, nothing heavy or greasy like fried foods. 4. Breathing (slow, deep, steady breaths with use of a focal point. A favorite picture works well. 5. Exercise

The one I like the best - the relaxation CD's of rain forest, ocean, rain, etc.

When I was a kid my mom swore by aspirin. She said it help slightly thin the blood, help blood flow, kept my heart from racing and though i couldn't tell a difference, she swore she noticed it help me stay calm. But at that age I didn't know what anxiety was. But now, when I get really nervous and feel like my heart is racing I will take one, but I use the breathing/relaxation too

Un plug : ) working out always helps with my anxiety . When I struggle I don't ever throw up but I instead just can't sleep. For that I take melatonin or unisome. Sorry he's having a rough go of it!

I actually have really bad anxiety/panic attacks as well. I currently take lorazepam as needed and it does help some what but if I'm really really nervous sometimes it doesn't. I'm wondering if anyone has taken it and if they know if Xanax would work for me better?

My cousin was told by his ENT that V8 juice helps calm it down. I'm sorry this happens. Hope you find something to help.

What I've found helps me is peppermint candies. Suck on them and breath through the nose. Plus it would be something that he could have in his mouth at the church if need be.
