Soooo, a) my parents have gone through a rough patch in recent years that has strained my relationship with my dad and b) neither me or my partner want me to be "given away." Soooo, a) my parents have gone through a rough patch in recent years that has strained my relationship with my dad and b) neither me or my partner want me to be "given away." We'd like to enter our ceremony and marriage together, but my mother is HORRIFIED that i don't want my dear old dad to walk me down the aisle. Can anyone share tips, photos, vids etc of ceremonies in the round/double aisles or how they shared a walk with parents and spouse? If he meets me halfway, does my dad then just walk behind us? So confused.

My best friend has severed ties with her dad, so she had walked down the aisle with her husband. Apparently it's a Russian tradition for the bride and groom to walk down the aisle together and since she's part Russian that worked. Maybe have both parents walk you down the aisle, or just have everyone you love and consider family escort you down the aisle like a big parade!

@MrsRies&Love-- I also read that the maid of honor's original purpose was to dress the bride is many layers and the heaviest of gowns so that if she tried to run, the dress/veil would trap her. So creepy. (Not having a wedding party either haha)

As far as names, I lovelove your story. I'm keeping mine but will likely hyphenate our kids' future names. We've discussed hyphenating the whole fam etc, but that will come when the babies happen. For now, I love my name and so does my parter so I'm keeping it.

@FutureMrsB I like this processional order! That could work.

I plan to walk down the aisle with my fiance. It's a Ukrainian tradition--it represents the couple entering a new life together. If we weren't both Ukrainian, I would probably walk down the aisle alone (I don't have a bad relationship with my father, I just don't want to be given away).

Both my FH and I are walking in with both of our parents. there will be no announcement of "who gives this woman" because that is just weird.

my parents walked in together. i also liked that idea.

First wedding I couldn't deal with the "giving away" idea, so I had both my parents walk me down the aisle together, as support. No "giving away" verbiage was used. (My ex was also walked down the aisle by both of his parents...no verbiage with him, either. Smiley smile )

This wedding, FH and I will be walking down together.

If FH weren't down with that, I'd be walking alone.

Not sure if that helps your case, but FWIW...you have more than a year, so good luck in finding a good compromise!!

I'm having a super small wedding, but I'm just walking by myself. I have a great relationship with my dad, but not the loving, adoring relationship that would warrant a first dance or anything. I think it'd be awkward to walk down with him!
